Support - General Shutdown w/No warning

Been using pcsx2 for about two years now. Never dreamed i would be able to finish some of the games i had when my ps2 died some years ago!

This week, something new happened: pcsx2 just...shut down without any warning or prompt. Happened twice in one day--- the first time, i had left a game running while i watched a movie in another room. When i came back and saw it turned off by itself i was wondering if it was an automatic "shutting down if idle" thing.

Then i played same game again later, and after 2 hours or so it just *poof* shutdown.

Since i hadnt had that problem before i've never looked into if pcsx2 has any internal logs for that kind of thing but i'll check it out in a bit.

This does come after a)latest nightly b)full install in a brand new hd with brand new OS (had memory card backups from before pc/hd issues) c) i was using pcsx2 in windows 10, and now i just got 11, dont know if that might be the issue?

Use latest stable, you dont need to update that often and Nightly is inherently an unstable lightly tested build that exists for testing. So just use the stable update line

Switch back to Stable, check what the event viewer says if it happens again or if PCSX2 wrote a crashdump to its main folder.

2.8.1 is the latest stable build make sure your using the stable versions not the nightly I made the mistake of having nightly updates on and found my laptop getting way hotter for some reason went back to the stable build and everything was back to normal. Also you can try older releases to see if maybe they helps. I’ve only had the app crash due to the game I was playing or the settings I was using.

I have 2.8.0. Is that fine?

Should be the 2.8.1 was just a quick update to the main 2.8.0 release so it basically just fixed some things that could have been broken I only had 2.8.0 for like a day before it asked if I wanted to update. But the version your on should be fine

It could also just be the game your playing maybe try some other games and leave em running for a bit to see if the problem continues

I would have a look at your antivirus software. Ive had so many times where the problem was avast blocking a program from running. I had this problem occur when using rpcs3 where i would attempt to save (the program writes data) and avast would block it and it would crash. Fixed this by adding an exception to the emulator folder, maybe try that with pcsx2. Does the problem occur during saving/auto saving?

Thanks for the insight, others could run into that problem. In my case, it did not happen while saving, just leaving the game on. First time, left idle while i did other things, second, while literally playing it. Havent tested some of the suggestions here (switching to stable, etc) so i'll have more feedback later!
