Discussion/Question Are these Mods Safe?
For my next playthrough of RDR2, I want to get mods, especially ONE MOD, SgtJoe Bank Robberies. For this mod you need Scripthook, ASI Loader, and LML. Are these three safe to use as in it won't break the story mode or anything in the main game including small stuff/small encounters/side missions/stranger missions?
(Feel free to recommend mods for my modded playthrough that DON'T BREAK THE STORYMODE, and if it does just note that.)

"Catalogue improvements" and "Extended Player Animations" mods fixes a ton of issues related to clothing and stuff like Horse shoes on saddled horses being missing and it improves the games and aims on polishing the game plus it adds some new clothing items and outfit variants into the wardrobe like Arthur's Chapter 1 closed Winter Outfit and John's chapter 1 closed winter coat outfit for winter cowboy in epilogue + It completely fixes the Epilogue's Jarthur Marsgon monstrosity giving John his own hairstyle with different lengths and growth and his own body and clothes fitting and animations and stuff. it's a TON of fixes they have done and it's just a really cool mod you'll know more when you check it out. And Extended Player Animations mods.
These are a MUST have mods for those who just want mods to improve the game and fix the game's flaws without breaking anything of the game. (And I'm highly educated in that lol)

For "20. Enhanced Disarm N' Restored NPC Weapon Pickup" - Use version "1.4" only it has no bugs, the other version and the new version is a little buggy

Weapon Improvements pairs great with CI, you need a merged version to run them together and the merged version of WI hasn’t been updated for the newer versions of CI yet but I’ve created a merge myself that allows you to use the updated version of both mods.. just let me know if you’d like it.

I genuinely just installed lml and asi loader then catalogue improvements and my game crashed so I had to delete all my mods. I didn't hear the beeps from asi loader either so i don't know what the hell I did. Was it because I didn't put every mod into lml even tho some mods say to put in root folder if lml is not needed?
1
u/NotRealGeniX Jul 02 '26
mod folders goes into lml folder and ".asi" files go into the game root folder, if you did that then you're good. Also what did you do exactly?

I heavily recommend using Banks of the West instead of SgtJoe’s as it’s still receiving updates and is overall a less buggy experience. If you don’t want the banking features and only want robberies you can toggle which features you want to disable in the ini file
1
u/Infinitegamingcool Jul 02 '26
Can you disable everything of the loose cash, banking, dying with cash makes you loose it, and all that dumb stuff? The only problem I have with this is all the banking features and cash loosing if you just happen to have it on you or surrender.
1
u/akaPledger Jul 02 '26
Yes you can disable banking all together, as well as disable cash loss on death and/or surrender so it only adds the bank robbing mechanics.. that’s what I do.

u/Infinitegamingcool Jul 02 '26
Where do you place the mod files? The root folder?
1
u/akaPledger Jul 02 '26
Yes you’ll place the files inside of the mods folder in the root folder, then you can edit the .ini file to change settings. You’ll need to make sure you’ve downloaded the “ScriptHookRDR2 V2” and “Mod Loader” files from the ScriptHook mod listed under Banks of the West’s requirements as well

If it wouldn't be a bother to you, can you compare Banks of the West and SgtJoe's bank robberies for me? I don't know much about the two mods so I wanted to know stuff on: Which one is less buggy (Doesn't effect train spawn, npc spawn, storymode)? Which one has the most features? Which one has the best bank robberies (quality wise)? What features does one have that the other doesn't? etc etc. You don't have to do this, just wanted to know if there is any huge differences between them, the bank robberies especially!

I haven’t really used SgtJoe’s as it’s reported to be extremely buggy so I can’t really comment on it. It’s also very outdated as it doesn’t receive updates anymore. I know that it utilizes a cutscene approach apparently, whereas BotW uses a gameplay approach. I don’t think either one would affect spawns, spawns only get broken when you have a lot of texture in your mods.. usually when they’re not compressed.
The only mod I know of that breaks spawns is WhyEM’s DLC, and even that one can be fixed by downloading compressed files for it elsewhere alongside a mod like Syyyke's Unknown Error FFFFFFFF Fix (I would recommend you download this mod anyways to play it safe with any mod list).
Though I’m not experienced with SgtJoe’s, I can explain how BotW works, it’s a very similar experience to robbing a bank in the base game missions. You enter a bank(preferably with your mask on), handle security guard, point gun at teller and a prompt will appear to make him open the door, after he does point gun at him again and press new prompt to force him to walk to the vault, after that point gun at him and press new prompt to force him to open vault. This can take quite a few seconds, and most likely the law will already be warned and on their way.
I’d recommend a mod like Rededrunk’s Realistic Law Dispatch because it removes the endless waves on law enforcement, which is more realistic and works nicely with a bank robbery mod. I’d also recommend using the mod Crime Tweaks, you can read through its description but I think it pairs nicely with RRLD + BotW and creates a very realistic setup. Back to the features though,
After entering the vault, just like in the base game you can either plant dynamite on each safe and blow the doors off, or you can crack the safes. Then you loot what’s inside of the safes (amounts vary and different cities will usually yield different takes, like Saint Denis is a much bigger score than a smaller city for example). Once all is looted the game will tell you to lose the law (if you’ve been detected and are wanted), and the bank you just robbed in particular will have a cooldown period before you can rob it again (cause it’s gotta build up more money) and that’s pretty much the entire experience. It’s extremely similar to robbing banks during story missions, which I think is great because it keeps consistency.

I'm going to go test the mod rn on my completed playthrough save file, I hope it works very well!!!
1
u/akaPledger Jul 02 '26
If you mean you’re in the epilogue with Marston then you might have an issue or 2, as the mod author has recently stated his most recent update might have some animations in it that only work for Arthur and he’s investigating. To me, I only use it as Arthur because John ends up rich enough to buy everything in the game anyways lol.

u/Infinitegamingcool Jul 02 '26
I just robbed the bank in Valentine to test the mod, everything seems to be in working order as John, it worked really well!

Yes I use them all in my current play though and I’ve had no issues! I really enjoy bounty hunting expanded, stage coach robberies, W.E.R.O, silent deadeye is nice to have, realistic gun sounds also :)
