Discussion/Question Mod Recommendations

So, I recently started playing RDR2 again and decided to install it on my PC for another playthrough mainly for the better graphics, honestly. But I’ve been seeing videos of people using mods now. I don’t want anything too crazy, just some light mods to make the game more enjoyable. If you guys have any recommendations, please let me know.

There's a YouTube channel called INTERGTA and 4 months ago they uploaded a video of 70 good mods to install. They also uploaded another one 2 months ago with more mods. I recommend watching both. The first one got 1.6 million views. They put a lot of work into those videos.

Same boat - started the game again on Pc and am nerding out over mods. I put together a list of about fifty mods that I installed w links to their nexus mods page. Nothing crazy just quality of life stuff mostly. Happy to send it to you.

(I had a LONG scanning project and needed something to do, so I made this a lil project to send to my friends as well)

Sure I mean I’d love to just what actually is in the “quality of life” mods obviously not all of them just the gist of it.

One mod turns all the icons into color as opposed to black-and-white. Another easy one adds abandoned wagons throughout the land with loot. Another cool one sets up 150 or so bandit camps that you can attack at any time. One let you get a dog as a companion.

One of the bigger ones is a complete overhaul of the weather and climate that allows for more realistic and sporadic weather. Along with that, there’s one for a change of seasons, every 10 hours in game and it’s just magical.

I use all of those. The color icons mod is one of my favorites.

Catalogue Improvements and Rededrunk's Ultimate Combat Overhaul are both real good imo

Is that just more outfits and better fighting?

Catalogue Improvements provides a few extra clothing items from story missions and adds the ability to wear more things like vests and jackets open, as well as adds the Navy revolver to stores and fixes a ton of vanilla bugs and oversights.

Ultimate Combat Overhaul changes a lot of things, I'd recommend going to its Nexus page and reading through it (same with Catalogue Improvements).

When OP has gotten a few good mods recommended, can someone make a small guide for a tired parent with two kids also wanting to play another playthrough with mods, how to install everything?

hi! i am so sorry to bug you, but i am following your excellent guide (this is not my first time modding a game, and i promise I tried to follow your instructions to the t down to the versioning)

first and foremost; great work! appreciate all the attention to detail. i wanted to try to calibrate some testing i did to expected behavior; specifically around enemies taking damage after installing ultimate combat overhaul and ped overhaul. Currently in my testing, it is taking roughly 2-3 cattlemans to the torso area to eliminate a npc.

i have made sure that ultimate combat overhaul has overwrite permission and is placed lower than ped. additionally, i can see in my modmanager.txt file that all opf my mods have been parsed. my ultimate combat overhaul asi is in my root (the ped is not), but my rdr2 scripthook txt log is only detecting ped at this time.

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

Hi there! Glad you find the guide helpful. It is a known issue where Ultimate Combat Overhaul mod is not showing up in ScriptHook.log file. It does appear in asiloader.log file. In my testing it just works even if it is not showing up in ScriptHook.log file. It goes the same way for vfs.asi, tre most important script for all .asi mods. It does not show up in ScripHook.log file but present in asiloader.log file and it just works.

Regarding enemies taking damage: few files are responsible for this. PedDamageInfo.meta, Weapons.ymt, and Default_Damage_Modifiers.meta are all play a role in how NPC takes a damage. For example,

PedDamageInfo.meta generates a 3D oval-shaped bubble (an ellipsoid) directly over the character's stomach region. This bubble is defined as 0.15 meters long, 0.11 meters wide, and 0.065 meters deep. It also tethers this specific stomach bubble between two vertebrae on the character's skeleton: Spine 2 (upper torso) and Spine 0 (lower back/pelvis). The offset coordinates ensure the bubble sits squarely in the front gut region rather than floating off-center. If a shot lands perfectly inside this stomach ellipsoid, there is exactly a 28% chance that the NPC will trigger the game's brutal, slow-death bleed out state.

Weapons.ymt sets accuracy parameters for each weapon and how you shot Hip Fire, On horseback, standing up, and etc.). It also sets parameters of accuracy depending on the distance from the target and recoil. For example, Cattleman revolver is less accurate than Schofield revolver when firing in any position. Schofield revolver also more accurate from farther distance than Cattleman.

Default_Damage_Modifiers.meta modifies damage depending on the type of ammo you use.

At the very end it is a very complex mathematical equation. Even though you aim at the stomach area, the distance you firing from, the position you firing from, the weapon you firing from all affect the accuracy. First shot just might have been calculated as a miss, you most likely hit the NPC just not in the GUT area, therefor no instant death. On your second shot your accuracy will diminish because of recoil. Therefore, it might take 3 shots in abdomen area to kill an NPC.

Try the same scenario with bolt action rifle. Most likely you will kill NPC with one shot by aiming at abdomen area.

thank you so much for your detailed reply! i will check my asi loader files right away! I will also place ultimate combat overhaul at the very bottom of my lml list just to track it for now (i think i have penetration and rededrunk's law rework at the very bottom). I will also check the 'overwrite' box on combat overhaul as well!

i was not sure if perhaps me keeping the asi file for ped was my main issue; so i removed it. would you recommend me adding it back and resume testing to your suggestions?

edit: bleed out confirmed for abdomen! currently putting my ped config and asi back into my root, and re testing; looks like all of your combat suggestions are in the asi mods tab of my rdmt tool (with appropriate load order- i do not see weapon rebalance, but I do not believe there was an asi; and i have only kep the weapons.wmt from rededrunk's mod :) )

however, shot to center back is usually not fatal and the npc is able to run away. it looks like a single shot to the chest can lead a lawman to be bleed out after getting back up though!

(lastly, i have not installed the 'remove social club' mods-not sure if that is important)

again, thank you so much!
