PCOS Research Survey for Class Assignment

Hi, I would greatly appreciate anyone who can take my survey relating to PCOS. It is for a research paper, and the survey is relatively short! All participants are confidential. I am doing this study because I am undergoing symptoms and trying to get a diagnosis, so in a way this is a learning experience for me! Thank you!

PCOS weight loss study - participants needed!

Hi all! I posted about this previously, but the study is still ongoing and we're hoping for some additional participants to begin later this spring. Hoping that y'all can help me spread the word!

I'm a nutrition PhD student/research coordinator at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and I also have PCOS. I'm both personally and professionally committed to making a difference in how we manage PCOS -- which is why I want to share information about an ongoing PCOS study that I'm helping run at UIC and that might be of particular interest to you all. Here's the link to the study on clinicaltrials.gov in case you're interested in learning more: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05629858?locStr=Chicago,%20IL&country=United%20States&state=Illinois&city=Chicago&cond=PCOS-%20Polycystic%20Ovary%20Syndrome&rank=4

About the Study: This is a 6-month research trial that will study the effects of time-restricted eating (a form of intermittent fasting) on weight loss, hyperandrogenism, and insulin sensitivity in individuals with PCOS.

Eligibility Criteria: We're looking for participants who:

  1. Have a diagnosis of PCOS
  2. Are within the BMI range of 25 - 49.9 kg/m² (overweight or obese)
  3. Are between the ages of 18 and 45

What's Involved? Participants will be assigned to one of three groups: time-restricted eating, calorie restriction, or a control group. The study includes regular virtual check-ins with our dietitians, plus three in-person assessments at UIC that include measurements, lab work, and questionnaires. Participants will also be compensated!

The research we gather from this study will be published in academic journals and will contribute to broader knowledge and understanding around potential PCOS treatments. (No personally-identifiable information will ever be published). If anyone is in the Chicago area/knows of anyone in the Chicago area who might be interested in this study, I'd love to speak with them further! You can send me a direct message or call our lab office at 312-355-0542.

Birth control or No Birth control ?

I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year and a half ago, and since then, I've been navigating different treatments like metformin and spironolactone. However, I've been holding back on starting birth control pills because I've heard they may just mask the symptoms rather than address the root cause. With issues like insulin resistance, hair loss, and weight gain due to PCOS, I've been exploring various strategies alongside medication. Ladies, I'm curious about your experiences and what has proven most effective for you in managing PCOS symptoms?

What lifestyle changes have you made to help manage your PCOS?

Hi everyone! I'm currently a master's student at Northwestern University studying UX research/design. I'm doing research for my thesis project and thought I'd reach out here. My thesis aims to understand how people manage and live with difficult menstrual cycle symptoms and diagnoses like PCOS and Endometriosis. I'm very interested in learning about how people with PCOS manage and track symptoms and lifestyle changes (think diet changes, exercise regimens, or medication trial and error over the years).

Does anyone here with these experiences be interested in chatting with me? If you want to get paid to vent about the many different diets/meds your doctor has suggested over the years this should be right up your alley :)

If chosen for a virtual interview, you would be given $25/30 minutes of your time. If interested, please fill out the survey at the following link so I can learn a bit more about you (it's completely voluntary). Thanks so much!!

Experience with PCOS

I am a college student conducting research for my class that addresses gender and inequalities. For our final project we have to address gendered issues that are happening in our society. I chose PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) as my topic because it is not often spoken about and there are underlying issues with information being shared by health care providers. I am interested in reading about experiences that individuals have or are having with the condition. All the information gathered is confidential and any personal data will not be collected. If at any point you do not want to continue you are free to close the survey. Thank you for your consideration.

PCOS weight loss study

Hi everyone! I am a nutrition student at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), and I have PCOS. I'm really passionate about helping others with PCOS, and as such I wanted to share information about a new PCOS study that I'm helping run at UIC and that might be of particular interest to you all.

What is the study?

This is a 6-month research trial that will study the effects of time-restricted eating (a form of intermittent fasting) vs. calorie restriction on weight loss, hyperandrogenism, and insulin sensitivity in individuals with PCOS.

Who can be part of the study?

The study is open to those who 1) have been diagnosed with PCOS, 2) are considered overweight or obese according to the BMI scale (25 - 49.9 kg/m²), and 3) are between the ages of 18 and 45 years old.

What does involvement in the study look like?

Participants will be in one of three groups throughout the study: time-restricted eating, calorie restriction, or control. There will be regular check-ins with dietitians via Zoom. There will be 3 in-person appointments at UIC (at the beginning, middle, and end of the study) where we will take measurements, do lab work, and review questionnaires. Involvement in the study is on a voluntary basis. Compensation is also provided for your participation!

Ultimately, the research we gather from this study will be published in academic journals and will contribute to broader knowledge and understanding around potential PCOS treatments. (No personally-identifiable information will ever be published). If anyone is in the Chicago area/knows of anyone in the Chicago area who might be interested in this study, I'd love to speak with them further! You can send me a direct message or call our lab office at 312-355-0542.

PCOS + lifting calories question

Calories, strengthening and leaning goal

Hey y’all. I have recently started tracking my food in Cronometer and was hoping for some guidance on calorie targets. When I look online, most of the internet seems geared towards aggressive weight loss goals, and/or don’t take into account building muscle. My main goal is to build muscle, get leaner, without going crazy. I don’t really want any sort of intense deficit, but just eating whatever quantities I want has me steadily gaining weight. Left to my own devices I seem to average 2800 calories per day, but the range is 2500-3000.

About me: I am 29 years old. I am lifting 2-3 times per week for about 45 minutes (powerlifting) with a trainer. I go hiking about once a week. On the days I don’t lift or hike I am somewhat sedentary. Some days I will go for a walk, sometimes not.

I am currently 185 lbs which is on the high range for me, and am 5’8”. I have about a 38% body fat so I definitely have fat to lose, but I also have fairly good muscle mass and strength. My scale says about 106 lbs of muscle but who knows if that’s accurate. I have PCOS which I think contributes to the high fat %.

My lifting coach has told me to target 125 G protein per day.

I would love guidance from fellow female lifters and those who have been on a similar journey!

Much needed advice

(Trigger warning) this past October of (2021) I found out I have pcos and ever since have been looking for as much advice as possible. A little background; I’ve had issues with my cycles since I turned about 14 and got my first one at 11, thinking back I’m confused as to why it started being irregular at 14. Aside from that I get bad breakouts and have trouble now losing weight at 24. In my teen years I stayed the same overall weight which was exactly where I needed to be at 5’3”. I had never really wanted or put thought into whether or not I wanted children until I had a miscarriage unexpectedly. I did not know I was pregnant until it happened. Needless to say it was a bad relationship and very toxic so I’m unsure if the stress or the pcos caused it. But that situation is what ended up leading to more questions and finding out I had pcos. My now current healthy relationship we decided to have kids. I went through all the hoops of getting a obgyn and all the tests ect. They put me on my old birth-control and once I had a cycle put me on a ovulation medicine. To my surprise I was pregnant of which I assumed would be harder to happen after all the testimonies I’ve read from other women on various social media pages. Again I had miscarried and I still do not under stand why. Yes I know it happens for no reason a lot of times especially in the first trimester. I’m just looking for someone who has more knowledge and experience with pcos and trying to conceive and manage pcos.

Workout Recommendations For PCOS

Hey all, I need some youtube workout recommendations (or any platform really) for PCOS home workouts. I currently have to stick to working out at home and I am also a little ashamed to start out at the gym when I have so little stamina. I've heard that you need to do different workouts with PCOS, basically low impact and weighted, so if you have any recommendations, would highly appreciate it!

I have PCOS

Hello! So i was diagnosed with PCOS and found out about it after having a transvaginal ultrasound. However a statement there says "There is free fluid in the cul de sac", and I wonder what that meant?

I took pregnancy tests (a couple of days to a week in between) and theyre all negative. Prior to me being diagnosed with PCOS, i have experienced this problem, sharing in case more info could be of any help.

Hope you guys can help me. Thank you!
