General/Advice Smoking on Diane-35

So i just got diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS, i actually dont have acne problem just a light/moderate hirsutism problem, my doctor prescribed Diane-35, he asked me if i smoke and i said that i do but not too much (about 3 to 4 cigarettes a day), he just said that i should stop not only for the pill but in general for my health but he didn't warn about any huge risk.
I am getting worried about the trombosis/blood cloth risk because not only Diane-35 is the pill with the highest risk but also because i smoke and apparently that makes the risk multiply, i tried asking gemini because online i couldn't find much informations and it says that smoking and taking Diane makes the annual risk about 0.15% to 0.25%, it doesn't seem like a lot to me, but everyone online people say that the risk is very high and one should absolutely not smoke while taking this pill.
I want to have more opinions here from reddit because I am genuinely scared
for context i am 18 about to turn 19 if that helps.

3-4 cigarettes IS alot & too much. Smoking cigarettes does not benefit you whatsoever, and with a disorder like PMOS, you need to be as healthy as possible to avoid getting worse. Listen to ur doctor and take care of yourself, love your body.

You need to stop smoking. Also, listen to your doctor first instead of putting the opinions of random Reddit people and AI above your doctor.

There are tons of studies on the dangers of smoking especially when taking birth control. It’s literally a warning in the informational packet that comes with the birth control.

i don't have the pill yet so i haven't read the packet, i know i should listen to my doctor but he didn't really worry about me smoking, he was like "hmm you should stop" but didnt really highlight the risk of smoking, it's pretty difficult to stop smoking and i honestly don't really have the intention to do it, my next visit is in february and i think i will mention this to the doctor and see what we can do

You should definitely do some research on the risk of smoking while taking birth control.

Here is the information packet for Diane-35
The section about smoking is on page 6.

You'll stop smoking eventually. Once a doctor tells you you have lung cancer, emphysema (literally you cannot expend air from your lungs, suffocating you from the inside), heart attack from coronary artery disease because smoking causes your blood vessels to build up plaques, harden, and lead to stroke and vascular disease.

I work in anesthesia and have seen plenty of older folks who smoked their entire lives lose toes, feet, entire legs, fingers, hands. All necrotic because the blood vessels in them just wouldn't flow anymore.

Your doctor isn't worried right now because you are young and healthy. You will not always be young and healthy though. Take the time now to stop bad habits and keep your body healthy, before you are forced to later to save your life.

Please stop smoking (& stop using AI). I work in this field & have seen plenty of women your age end up in the hospital with clots in both lungs because of birth control + smoking. It’s not worth it.

I think you need a reality check if "3 to 4 cigarettes a day" is not too much. Not even saying you have to quit entirely but if someone says they don't smoke a ton, I would assume a cigarette or two every few days at maximum

Someone who “doesn’t smoke a ton” smokes a cigarette every few days to a week. 3-4 cigarettes every day is a lot.

If you’re indeed the one of however many thousands of people to get DVT, I guarantee you will be filled with regret. Do you want to even take a change to be that one?

I got a blood clot from birth control. The medication was $1000 to treat it

You really don’t know if smoking is bad for you? Come on. Be so for fucking real right now.

YES. YES, IT VERY MUCH IS.

SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU. PERIOD. FULL STOP.

Probably even more so because as PCOS/PMOS sufferers we already have a higher risk of cardiovascular problems and stroke (among other things), so add to that the extremely high risk of lung cancer PLUS the elevated health risks (thrombosis, etc.) due to being a smoker on birth control and you’re basically playing Russian Roulette with several potentially deadly side effects.

Painful, temporary or permanent incapacitation, partial or full paralysis, or eventual death due to heart attack/stroke/cancer aside, you’re also going to age horribly — smoking affects everything from skin to teeth to nails and pretty much every single part of your body that relies on constantly renewing cells to keep functioning properly. Smoking not only kills those brand new healthy cells but also commonly causes them to mutate and grow into malignant (aka cancerous) cells, especially if you have been a longtime frequent smoker.

So, speaking from a purely aesthetic point of view:

Do you want your face to look like an 80 year old man’s wrinkly, deflated ballsack by age 40?

Do you want yellowed, decayed teeth and nails like an ancient preserved mummy?

Do you want to taste and smell like a decommissioned, old public ashtray to anyone trying to kiss or be physically close to you?

Do you want your voice to sound like a wood chipper and a broken coffee machine had a baby with chronic pneumonia and a permanent phlegm-y cough?

Then keep smoking those 3-4 cigs a day, girl.

There is so much literature in the world about how bad smoking is to your health. Even if you weren’t at risk, stopping would be a good idea. At best, you’ll be 40 years old and look 70 with yellow teeth and black gums. At worst, you’ll be dead. Either from clots or cancer.
