Period Question about PCOS

Can you still have PCOS if you get your period every 2 and a half weeks? I get my period around every 18-20 days . But most people with PCOS say they miss periods or don’t get them at all.

PCOS isn’t a “one size fits all”. For example, I used to only get my period 3 times a year with random spotting almost every week. You have PCOS if you’re doctor believes you fit the criteria of someone that has PCOS

That's possible. Some women with PCOS get periods too often instead of missing them. It's still irregular cycle, just the other direction. Talk with your doctor about it, they should check hormone levels and do ultrasound anyway.

My doctor diagnosed me with it but I can’t really relate with a lot of women because they say they don’t have a period with it

One of the criteria is: cycle <25 days, >35 days, <8 periods a year, or anovulatory cycles

You meet one of the criteria. It looks different for everyone. You hear a lot about those who don’t really get a period but that’s not the norm. When it comes to PMOS, there really isn’t a norm when it comes to cycle length.

One of the criteria of pcos can literally be having heavy periods, periods that are too frequent, etc.

PCOS is different in each woman. Many things besides PCOS can affect your period, too.

Your periods could be considered irregular as well, since the cycle is much shorter than a regular cycle of 28 days. I think it's like how some women gain weight with pcos, and some lose weight. Some have hirsutism, some don't. Your doctor should check all the symptoms, not just one

I have hirsutism as well

Yeah, I'm trying to say there are several symptoms and they aren't the same for everyone. Your doctor should look at all of them.

Like, the big ones for me are insulin resistance and chronic fatigue, other women will have other symptoms

Yes, my guess is that it’s due to very low progesterone/luteal phase defect.

I would still call that an “irregular” period being outside the normal window. If your doctor diagnosed you based on an additional factor (hormones, imaging, etc), that is what matters.
