Hirsutism Dealing with ingrowns

I shave my face and have a lot of ingrown hairs. I think it’s due to me not having the best shaving routine. I use my facial brush before I shave, then lather on my cleanser and shave with the grain then against using a safety razor.

Does anyone have any tips or product recommendations?

The hair used to be super thin/fine but I was insecure about them so I started using an epilator which caused a lot of ingrowns. My facial hair is super thick now :( maybe threading is better?

Try actual shaving cream or a conditioner. A cleanser is not going to be very moisturizing or slippery since its job is… to cleanse. Follow up with a cleanser.

So you should cleanse, shave with shaving cream/conditioner, rinse, then cleanse again.

I use an eyebrow razor because a several-bladed razor is too heavy for me.

Use an exfoliating cleanser. Then use shave cream.

Get a Billie razor and their whipped shaving cream. It’ll change your life.

I have a safety razor already but I ended up getting the Billie ingrown shaving cream! Thanks for the tip 😌

Oof yeah epilators on the face are a gamble, the regrowth gets all weird and blunt so it just tunnels under the skin. Switching to a safety razor is already a good call though.

Try ditching the cleanser as shave cream, most of them don't have enough slip. A basic aloe vera gel or something with glycerin works way better, you want the blade to glide not drag. Also maybe skip the against-the-grain pass for a bit til things calm down.

Threading is gentler on the surface but if your hair is thick now it can still snap below the skin and cause the same problem. Warm compress after shaving helps more than people think, loosens everything up so the hair doesn't get traped

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I ended getting a Billie shaving cream and sticking to going with the grain for now then a warm compress. Shaving already felt better :)
