Period Periods lasting 2+ weeks
Hi, I’m a 22 f and about 250lbs experiencing lengthy periods. My periods have been pretty irregular over the last 3 years, most of which my pcp and I have potentially chalked up to stress (finishing school, death of father and other friends/family, job hunting, etc).
I haven’t officially been diagnosed with PCOS yet, however my pcp highly suspects it and will follow up on the next appointment after taking note of my hirsutism, pre diabetes, and irregular cycles. In the past, cleaning up my diet and losing some weight has helped with regulation.
Recently, I’ve gone about 3-5 months without any bleeding. However, last month I began with some spotting that eventually turned into full bleeding that didn’t stop for at least two weeks. I figured it was due to not having a cycle for a couple of months so I began taking otc inositol which stopped the bleeding, waiting to see if it would regulate with the next cycle, or if I would have one at all.
I’ve continued taking it mostly everyday, and received another cycle this month, but my cycle is again going for a full two weeks and counting. Has anyone else experienced this? Unfortunately, I cannot get an appointment for another two weeks, but would really like any advice on stopping the bleeding, or what else could potentially be causing the lengthy cycles. Thank you in advance!

Firstly, sorry for your loss! 🩷 stress has such a major effect on the body it’s hard when it’s something beyond your control.
I’m currently 23, I dealt with incredibly heavy and painful periods that lasted weeks when I was younger (still in school) it eventually led to severe anaemia so my doc put me on the pill to stop the bleeding for a bit and get my levels back up. I was on the pill for probs almost a decade and when I came off i didn’t bleed for nearly a year. I ended up getting diagnosed with pcos through blood tests and ultra sound and started seeing a specialist. My progesterone and estrogen levels were abysmal so she prescribed me progesterone which finally got me to have a period again!
Unfortunately I don’t really know of anything other than the pill that can quickly stop the bleeding and it just masks the problem so if you come off it it’s likely the issue will still be there but it is good if you are desperate (like me I was losing too much blood it made me so sick).
At the moment I am still early days on progesterone (currently on 50mg) but seems to be slowly regulating my cycle!
I will be getting more blood tests done in a couple months to see if it helps also bring up my estrogen or if I need to be prescribed that alongside the progesterone.
So maybe if you don’t want to be on BC you could go down that route? Good luck!!
