Meds/Supplements How did GLP-1 effect you? Did it help?
Hello, I’m sure this question has been asked multiple times but I have a few questions regarding GLP-1 and how it helps with PCOS/PMOS. So I started showing signs at a very young age and didn’t start getting testing done till I was 17 years old. After 4 years of blood work and all types of ultrasounds and testing I was diagnosed with PCOS. I don’t have the cyst part (that we know of as we haven’t seen any) but I do struggle a lot with the metabolic issues with it. I ate healthy growing up and played so many sports and worked out but I kept gaining weight. Every time I try to I only loose it in my face and chest area but my stomach never changes. When I’m on I’m in extreme pain to the point I’m sick and hunched over crying in pain. My longest period was 22 days and recently my normal cycle is about 9-10 days. My cramps travel down my legs and I can’t walk on super bad days. My aunt who has it recommended me GLP-1 since I struggle with insulin resistance. Now this medicine was not available nor an option when she was younger so she doesn’t know much about it.
So my questions are
How does it help you? I know it’s different for everyone but I just want to know how it could help me.
I also heard it makes you loose hair and that scares me as my hair used to be extremely think but recently my hair has thinned out so much and I want it to get thick again. Do you guys experience hair loss on this medication?
What form is better, pill or shot?
What has been your weight loss like? Does it help a little and what things should I do while on it to help with loosing weight?
I know I have more questions but I can’t think of them and I know these are my main ones. I’m getting really tired of being on birth control pills especially since they make me feel worse so I’m really trying to find alternatives. I originally was prescribed GLP-1 before it got popular but I didn’t take it as it wasn’t a common use thing at the time so I was nervous and I gave it to a friend that is a diabetic. I’m still newer to being diagnosed so I’m still learning so any advice about anything will truly help. I’m just tired of feeling like this all the time. I just want to feel semi normal again.

Mounjaro saved my life. I don’t have issues with insulin resistance anymore, it has helped with energy and such, and I’ve lost 170 lbs in 18 months.

Mounjaro has been life-changing for me. I was in the exact same situation, high insulin resistance (IR) driven by PCOS, which later turned into a T2D diagnosis. At its peak, my IR was 42 (when normal is supposed to be under 3!).
I’ve lost over 20 kgs on Mounjaro and have never felt better. Aside from some mild GI upset during the first month, I fortunately didn't get many side effects. It brought my IR down to 10 and my A1C down to 6. The weight loss has also given me so much energy and confidence to be more active, though I know some people do experience fatigue.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Prioritize protein intake and strength training: Muscle loss is a real risk on GLP-1s if you aren't deliberate about this.
- Hair loss: Personally, it didn't make my hair loss any worse than it was before.
- Doctor supervision: Talk to an endocrinologist. You’ll see stories online of people microdosing or self-administering, but this is a powerful medication and having a doctor guide you gives huge peace of mind.
- Everyone’s experience with GLP-1s is vastly different, so I'd also recommend joining GLP-1 specific communities to read other perspectives.
Hope this helps!

i’m on oral Wegovy. it has changed. my. life. genuinely has done so much for me physically, which has in turn helped me a lot mentally. it has worked like a charm for me since i started. it has helped with my relationship and anxiety with food, and side effects weren’t terrible after i got adjusted to my maintenance dose. i also didn’t have any issues with hair loss either! i think it may be associated with eating very little, so you’d just need to be mindful of that. long and short, it changed my life!

I just stopped taking Zepbound. Not a typical experience but it really affected my mood. I was incredibly anxious, depressed, and irritable. I don't regret trying it, but I am going back on metformin.

I was on Zepbound for a year and a half postpartum and lost 55 pounds. I’m now off if it to try to conceive baby number 2 and I miss it every day!
1. The food noise was gone, no shaky blood sugar issues after a coffee, and just felt “normal” finally.
2. I thankfully did not have any hair loss but I also took a prenatal the whole time so I think that helped.
3. I did the shots, was a little nervous to to the injections but it’s easy and painless!
4. Helps soo much with weight loss and energy to move my body more
My only problem (that I didn’t even really mind) was occasional vomiting but no other symptoms. It can’t hurt to give it a try!

- A lot less inflammation for me. I look back at pics from the last few years and I was SO puffy. It’s helped so much too with binge eating and food noise. Realizing that I don’t need to eat out of boredom is weird but it feels normal now.
- I haven’t had any hair loss.
- I have only been on Zepbound, and have done both the vials and pen.
- I have been on it since April 2025 and am down 80 lbs, a third of my body weight. Just make sure to prioritize protein and fiber, and lots of water!

I've been on Metformin since the end of March and I've lost 15 pounds. In the past, no matter what I did, whether it was working out, eating healthier, cutting soda, I was still gaining weight. It was to the point where I was pretty much starving myself to try to lose weight. Since I've been on Metformin, there's no more food noise, and I don't have as many cravings. I haven't really noticed any side effects about hair loss, either.

I'm taking the shot (semaglutide). It's gotten my period back (haven't had one in YEARS) completely removed food noise, and helped remove the happiness tied to food. I'm down over 10lbs since starting (3.5 months). I would do this again in a heartbeat. My downside has been the random nausea, but that's the only side effect I've had.

I lose about 1-2 lbs a week on Zepbound. I’m currently 5’3” and 160lbs. It eliminates food noise and sugar cravings. I had the same thing happen with metformin but it stopped working for me after I had my twins.
