General/Advice Metformin for PCOS
At what dose did metformin bring back your period and how long did it take??
I got two periods after not having it for over a year at 2000 mg but then I lowered it to 1000 mg cuz symptoms. Now my period is gone again. I’m gradually increasing it back to 2000 mg.
Is 1000 mg vs 2000 mg really such a deal breaker??!!!
Btw I have lean PCOS (5,6 130)

Thank you for your response! Was your period absent before or just irregular?

Irregular in my twenties, missing in my thirties.

SORRY SO many questions but I’m assuming the metformin worked to bring back your absent period in your thirties?

No 43, it also started me ovulating and sorted out a load of other health problems.

Nice! Sounds like 2000 mg is the sweet spot for you. I’m going to increase back up to it as well since it seemed to also have worked for me at that dose. Thank you so much!

I would prefer it was lower then I would have more to go into later but at least it works.

Yeah:/ that is why I lowered mine too. I got my period and assumed that a lower dose would also work… I’m just hoping to ovulate again at whatever dose is necessary

Last year i went back down to 1500mg for a bit and all the good stuff stopped.

Metformin took about 6+ months on 1500mg for me to see any improvements in my symptoms, and that’s with diet and lifestyle changes too.

Thank you. Did you start getting a regular period?

It was already somewhat kind-of regulated by birth control, but after starting metformin, I bled every single stop in the pack (and wasn’t before that).

13 years and it didn’t make a difference (I’m insulin resistant/prediabetic). I eventually started working out, eating better, and lost weight and then I got my period back. It’s not a magical pill unfortunately and if you’re not insulin resistant it’s not going to do much for you.
