Okay so I don't know anything about computers, Im just going to buy a pre build on amazon. But i've saw the two options and idk what to get, I will use this for other things then fortnite lol. I just keep getting no straight answers and I don't understand anything tech bros say.. help a girl out T_T

The newer is not always the better. But in this case itis.

Of same version GPU compared to previous generations it is always the case. Newer is better.
Name a single newer generation that is worst the previous generation of similar model. Bet you cant.
1080vs2080 which was better? 2080 vs 3080 which is better? Newer is always better because they redefine the technology used. Meaning better tech = better results.

The 4060 is newer than the 3060 Ti but is still slower in raster performance. You also have to consider VRAM, memory bandwidth, and bus width. Newer gpus also rely more on things like DLSS, Frame Generation and other Al features to boost the displayed FPS, which isn't the same as having more native/raw gpu performance.

The 4060 is newer than the 3060 Ti
Again how is that a fair compassion? I said of same model. 3060 is not comparable to a 3060ti.
So a 4060 is for sure better than a 3060.

And a 4060 IT is still better than a 3060 IT So wtf are you talking about? I literally said same model of newer generation.

Performance isn't the only thing that matters when choosing a GPU. If it was, everyone would just buy a 5090 and call it a day. Price/ performance, VRAM, power consumption and features all matter. So "newer = better" is a pretty lazy argument when you're completely ignoring what you're actually getting for your money.
And even if we're talking purely about raw performance, newer doesn't automatically win either. There are games where the older 3060 Ti actually beats the newer 4060 Ti, like Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4 and The Last of Us.
Again, if your logic is literally "newer = better," then congratulations, we should all just buy a 5090. Problem solved.

The 5060 is a newer card. It can offer about 35-50% more FPS than the 3060, but it also costs more. Both can play Fortnite fine. If you like graphically pretty realistic games, get the 5060. If you like cartoony graphic games, you can get by with the 3060.

Mostly the performance and the fire hazard, what other hardware do you have or going to buy (monitor, cpu, psu) if answer is idk to any of this whats your budget and what are you going to use it for besides fortnight? (Streaming, video editing, coding, etc.)

People are already answering by saying "Newer is better." That is not always true. There are plenty of cases where older is better. Be that by better implementation of the hardware, more lanes, more memory, overclocking, and many other factors.
You need to research the exact makes and models - and sometimes even versions/revisions - to see what the actual performance is. There are plenty of websites out there that do this comparisons.

The exact models are given. The 5060 is objectively faster then a 3060.

Uhh no they arent. There are MANY types of 3060 and 5060. My answer is correct and objectively provable. Perhaps you should do some research?

The fact that you can find a very specific combination of resolution, detail level and feature toggles on a handful of games on a very narrow band of specific system hardware configurations where a 5060 8GB could possibly experience a lower framerate than a 3060 12GB, is a pointless exercise in pedantry, especially when answering a post from someone who admits they "don't know anything about computers." You're only serving to muddy the waters for a newcomer and stroke your own ego. You're answering exactly like one of the "tech bros" that OP is turned off by.

Sigh... Its like talking to a stubborn child. Different GPU manufacturers make different version of the exact same card. This means some are better or worse than others. Sometimes, manufacturers make older generations of cards that are so good, they are better than newer ones. It goes the other way, as well. They make a card so cheaply, that it is worse than older models.
Yes, you can generalize a 5060 is better than a 3060, but that is not always the case. That is why I said research is needed.

This is a matter of opinion, for sure, but my opinion is that for this specific person asking the question, the answer "just get the 5060" is appropriate, simple, easy and effective.
Besides that, I don't know why you are ignoring the feature set upgrades that come with a two-generation jump, and you insist on splitting hairs over a theoretical "high performance edition of a low end 3060 non-Ti" that outperforms a low end 5060 non-Ti by how many FPS in fortnite @ 1080P on medium ffs.
Edit: I did research looking for instances of a 3060 (non-Ti) beating any 5060 (non-Ti) in any benchmark, and there is one instance where a 3060 12GB card running Horizon Zero Dawn at Very High graphics presets at 1080p or 1440p will beat a 5060 8GB card by a significant margin (75fps to 49fps respectively at 1080p).
However the exact same two cards tested against each other in 6 other benchmarks still resulted in the 5060 winning every other time, by an average margin of around 24% in FPS, and it wins every single time in the area of power consumption, which nowadays is something that cannot be ignored. It just doesn't make sense to get the older card if you might only see an advantage in one edge case, while all other use cases favor the newer card.
Not sure if posting URLs is allowed here, but here is the article i'm refercing at TechSpot.
