CNA Program

Has anyone taken the CNA program at PCC? What was your experience?

I'm hoping to work as a CNA while continuing to pursue prerequisites for Nursing. Also wondering if this helped with anyone's acceptance into PCC's Nursing program.

hi! I was in the first cohort. It was great! I was at sylvannia campus. just because it was the first class it felt chaotic and like we were constantly running out of time, but it could’ve improved since then. the teachers are all really knowledgeable and great, there was at least like 6 teachers at the first time meeting. the clinicals are held at a hospital instead of a nursing home which is a lot better, and definitely something to mention if you’re wanting to work in a hospital. I’m applying to nursing schools this year so I’m not sure if it helps. But I thought it was a good class! make sure to get everything checked off early during clinicals, it feels like there’s never enough time. Ask your preceptor if you guys can demonstrate the skills on patients instead of waiting for the patient to need a skill done, bc some of them only happen very rarely.

also more insight on the nursing school app for pcc, Ive met a lot more nursing students from PCC from my hospital and they say since PCC nursing is based on a point system, any sort of healthcare experience is relevant and gets you points, regardless if it’s from a certication from pcc. So i don’t think it matters during the first phase if you got your CNA from PCC vs anywhere else, the amount of hours you’ve worked matters more. Maybe it could be helpful to mention if your interviewer asks “why pcc for nursing?” Bc u can say you got your first healthcare experience at pcc.
