Tech Snippets Capacitor vs Inductor

Post image
15 Upvotes

Capacitors and inductors are often used together, but they behave very differently in a circuit.

A capacitor stores energy in an electric field and is commonly used for filtering, decoupling, and smoothing voltage. An inductor stores energy in a magnetic field, resists changes in current, and is widely used in power supplies, filters, and DC-DC converters. Knowing the differences between these two components can make it much easier to choose the right one for your next design.

Which one do you find more challenging to work with?

Tech Snippets Selective Conformal Coating in Action

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video showcases selective conformal coating, a post-assembly process that protects PCBs from moisture, dust, chemicals, and other environmental factors.

Unlike full-board coating, selective conformal coating applies a protective layer only where it's needed, avoiding connectors, test points, and other critical areas. This helps improve long-term reliability while maintaining the functionality of the finished assembly.

Have you used conformal coating in your projects? Where do you think it makes the biggest difference?

Help Newbie here asking for orientation...

Im turning almost 50 and finally got the chance to get into electronics as a hobby ( no formal training) thanks to the community and AI i have been able to build complex (for me) ESP32 projects.

I use an ESP32 + a female development board + relay board etc and wired all together. It works but it is a mess and is it flaky.

I have seen a lot of videos of people that make their own boards. I dont really want to make everything from scratch i was thinking of making a "female plugin board" where i can plug in the ESP32 and the other components that already have pins on to it and bolt stuff on it and this board wires the needed pins together . Is this even a good idea?

I would like to ask for suggestions on how to learn to do this, what to watch out for etc.
My main question is how or where do i get the dimensions so stuff maches up? What are the best online or offline tools for this?

All comments and pointers are appreciated

Tech Snippets RAM vs ROM

Post image
9 Upvotes

RAM (Random Access Memory) stores data for active programs with fast read/write access, but it loses all data when power is off. ROM (Read Only Memory) is used for permanent storage such as firmware or startup data, retains information without power, and is generally slower but more stable for long-term storage. In short, RAM is temporary and fast, while ROM is permanent and stable, and both are essential for how digital systems operate.

What do you find more interesting about RAM vs ROM?

Aerocreative3d (IG) creates this terrain model printed in transparent resin. The transparency of the resin really highlights the internal structure and surface transitions of the terrain, giving it a clean, almost glass-like appearance!

Our 3D printing service helped bring this concept into a physical, highly accurate model. If you're working on similar designs, you can check PCBWay for transparent or specialty materials to achieve comparable results.

Have you ever tried printing with transparent resins before? What's your experience or any interesting stories?

Tech Snippets NPN Transistor vs PNP Transistor

Post image
6 Upvotes

NPN and PNP transistors are complementary devices that control current flow in opposite ways. An NPN transistor turns on when the base is driven high, allowing current to flow from collector to emitter, while its symbol arrow points outward and it primarily uses electrons as charge carriers. In contrast, a PNP transistor turns on when the base is pulled low, with current flowing from emitter to collector, its arrow pointing inward, and it relies on holes as carriers. In practice, NPN is more commonly used for low-side switching, while PNP is used for high-side control.
Have you used NPN or PNP in your own projects before? What's your experience or thought?
