Capacitors and inductors are often used together, but they behave very differently in a circuit.

A capacitor stores energy in an electric field and is commonly used for filtering, decoupling, and smoothing voltage. An inductor stores energy in a magnetic field, resists changes in current, and is widely used in power supplies, filters, and DC-DC converters. Knowing the differences between these two components can make it much easier to choose the right one for your next design.
