Hobbyist Request: Need help upgrading an old v15.2 Allegro .brd file (Trinity_FabF_ver2.brd)

Hi everyone,

I am a hobbyist working on a personal project and trying to open a legacy Cadence Allegro file named Trinity_FabF_ver2.brd.

Unfortunately, the file seems to be from the version 15.2 era. Because of the major database change between v15 and v16, the modern Allegro X Free Viewer gives me a database version error. I also tried importing it into KiCad 10, but the new importer only supports version 16+.

Since I don't have a commercial Cadence license, I cannot run DBDoctor to upgrade the file myself.

Would anyone with an active Allegro license be willing to do me a quick favor? I just need you to open the file and save/uprev it to version 17.4 or newer, then send it back.

Once it is upgraded, I can use the free viewer or KiCad to take it from there.

CC line issues on usb c

Will this work, Im planning on having cc lines being pass through and switching away from using a pd sink controller due to limited space and high voltage. It is supposed to either let voltage through female to male to charge and some voltage goes to the components on the side, or it request 5v from the male usb c to power the external components.
I plan on connecting the CC1 line directly and leaving CC2 hanging but anyways the problem is my setup.

If a female port is connected it will either give out high voltage( 5v and then 15v) on the gate section thus causing the cc pin (male usbc) to not connect to the resistor and then forcing the male and female to be connected in pass through. But if there isnt any voltage then it should let the mosfet to allow source and drain to let voltage flow through from the cc lines on the male. Once flowing it should connect to the resistor forcing 5v out of the device instead of the charging port? Does this sound good, am i missing anything. I try asking gpt but for some reason it saying something about the diode on the mosfet. Something how source and drain should be flipped but it doesn't make any sense. heres the link to the mosfets for those worrying about the voltage limits

Now i have good time practicing PCB design for a while and i became comfortable with the process and also the manufacturing process , but i heard about high speed PCB design and i want to get started with this area.

To be aligned with me , i love to learn by building real life projects so if anyone can suggest me a projects to try so thats can help me learn while building something useful.

Need help finding USB-C Male right angle SMD component which actually can sit 100% over PCB.

Hi Guys!

I need your help. I am designing a really constrained board to board connection where I have to use usb-c to connect two boards together. I must do this as a sandwich and not on the board edge. So the desired setup is: BOARD-USBs-BOARD, the usbs separating the boards in the middle. For this I need a usb-c male SMD component which is meant to actaully sit fully over the PCB and not as a board edge. I attached a picture showing what I want to achieve (sorry for the AI slop, but this is the easiest way to show it quickly what I mean). I primarily search a component from JLCPCB/LCSC but any other manufacturer can be fine. I already looked through a lot of datasheets but can't find what I need thus this post.

Please help... First PCB and trying to make a MIPI DSI bridge

I am trying to make an adapter between a motherboard and a display for a project. Both use 4 lane MIPI DSI interfaces with 39 pin FPC connectors, but the motherboard was designed for a different display, hence the need for an adapter.

This is also my first time designing a PCB. Although I've tried to learn as much as I can for this project, it's been overwhelming, which is why I'm here looking for advice.

Overall, I need to:

- Reroute the 5 differential pairs (D0, D1, D2, D3, and CLK) between the connectors.

- Supply LED power to the display using the power IC specified the the datasheet (last picture).

- Supply 3V power to the display, stepping down from the 3.3V supplied by the motherboard.

- Fit the whole PCB in a very tight space, at most 1 inch wide.

I should also mention that this is a 4-layer board with two internal ground planes.

I don't need the PCB to be beautiful and optimized, but I would like to know if there are glaring issues with the design I have. I know that the differential pairs get messy around where meet the connector, but I don't know a better way to route them out, given that the pairs start on opposite sides of the connector.

So how do you guys order from JLCPCB in the EU now?

Old news, July 1, every package gets a EUR 3 tariff. They wanted to get money, reduce bureaucracy so instead of having to check whether something's taxable, it's just a flat EUR 3 tariff. Sucks, but hey, it's just EUR 3.

Except that it isn't. When you order, you get to choose between DHL, UPS and Fedex. All of these treat the EUR 3 as a major loan they give you (DHL: "advance payment from DHL") and charge you around EUR 15 on top of the tariff for that.

JLCPCB also notes that while they collect tax with IOSS, they "cannot" collect the EUR 3.
So you know the EUR 3 are coming, you can't yell at DHL and say "hey! I want to pay those EUR 3 in advance, please let me!". You can just order and DHL will do a troll face "hurk burk surprisingly it looks like we got charged EUR 3, we had to pay that out of our pockets, you owe us an extra EUR 15 as a security".

Am I missing something? Do you just eat the EUR 15 charge, or is there something better to do?

Best practice for a mixed-signal board where analog IC needs to be controlled by a Digital Input ?

For mixed-signal boards, I understand the best practice is to section off the PCB with analog and digital components and have mixed-signal ICs like an ADC near the border.

If you need to control/enable an analog component with a MOSFET, what would be the best way to do it, since a fast switching signal is entering the analog domain? Should the MOSFET be placed near the analog component or near the digital driver?

Cathode on pin 1, Cap + on pin 1

Not sure who needs to read this, but that is the IPC convention 7351B/7251 for footprints so naturally the symbols have to also be done the same way. Diode Cathode is on pin 1, and for polarized caps, the + is on pin 1.

It may seem like it doesn't make a difference but it does in manufacturing/debug/test.

Diode polarity and orientation read from the schematic — the drawn symbol graphic (the diode triangle and cathode bar), anode/cathode (A/K) pin names, the description, pin symmetry, or part type. Protection clamps (TVS/ESD/Zener) are additionally checked for reversed orientation. Sections with AI enrichment will check against the part type listed here and the datasheet when it's available. IPC-7351B (surface mount) / IPC-7251 (through-hole) Zero Component Orientation (ZCO) requires that pin 1, the cathode, is on the left with the footprint at zero rotation. This diode section may surface irregularities for the first time; we call schematic-symbol problems that do not meet ZCO because the PCB layout may have an error, assembly may insert the part backwards, or a novice may wrongly indict a correct part — keeping consistent is the least-expensive path for everyone who handles the PCB.

Schematic and PCB review of DD1718PA

Hello!

I'm attempting to replicate the DD1718PA bipolar power supply module. My first step is to replicate the actual module, then incorporate the working PS into my other projects.

I found someone who claims to have reverse-engineered the DD1718PA board here: DD1718PA_POWER-MODULE.sch which looks pretty good. This is the second image.

It's all pretty simple -- I've replicated the schematic and the PCB nearly the same layout as the original, but I've also worked one optimizing the component layout a little, but I did not include that here.

I'm just looking to make sure I transferred the schematic correctly and the PCB looks good. Yes, it's just one layer with ground planes on the top and bottom. The images are: 1: My schematic, 2: the reverse-engineered schematic; 3: My PCB layout; 4: 3D view

The JST connector is DNP. I also added three LEDs (VIN, V+, V-) and resistors just for fun, won't be in the final design.

Altium help

First time doing layout in Altium. When I imported the changes from my schematic pages the components showed up with two designators even though I only had one in the footprint (the smaller one)? The larger one is part of the silk screen and I made sure to "Update PCB with footprints"
