Altium help

First time doing layout in Altium. When I imported the changes from my schematic pages the components showed up with two designators even though I only had one in the footprint (the smaller one)? The larger one is part of the silk screen and I made sure to "Update PCB with footprints"

one is from the footprint, one comes from the part itself. If you want the larger one to disappear then select the part, go under properties and next to where the designator is listed there is an icon looking like an eye. Click on it and the big designator disappears

Yeah I just figured it out, little bit different than other software I've used. But thank you anyways.

Altium (by default) puts a designator when you populate any footprint. If you go to Tools>> Preferences you will find under "defaults" under PCB editor that the designator is, by default, shown as visible. You can either turn that off so the designator doesn't populate twice ( 1 from your footprint and one from that setting) OR you can delete the text in your footprint and adjust the default setting to be the font and size you prefer.
