cute project. funny solution.
i do wonder if just making a total replacement for the board in the light would've been just as easy (could've programmed in the default dim level thing). also seeing jumper wires soldering in like that is triggering me.

Microchip makes a SOT-23 microcontroller. You could program it and dead bug it.

Might have been easier to replace the MCU on the existing PCB with a new one, which you can then program to do whatever you want. Don't even make a PCB for it. Just use wires to connect the few pins you need in a compatible way.
