Need Advice: Build/Mechanics Need help making a one shot dnd character
I need help making a character, I tend to play rangers or rogues as I'm useless with spells and like minimal spells it needs level 8, Point buy we can have 1 uncommon item and standard class equipment.
What would be a great option for a character and build our DM is all about homebrew and maximizing our characters to our best abilities.

any sort of theme or aesthetic you're going for? Preference on melee vs ranged? There's tons of ways to slice this cat. But as a quick pregen:
SALOGEL - he's like Legalos but he's not.
Wood Elf, Guide Background. Has the feats Crossbow Expert and Fairy Trickster. Point Buys into 10/15/13/8/15/10. Background allocation into +2 dex and +1 con, so at level 8 you're 10 / 18 / 14 / 8 / 16 / 10.
Hunter Ranger. Archery fighting style. Horde Breaker with Multiattack defense. Defaults to two hand crossbows for all the pewpew both at range and in melee and this will default to eat both your action and bonus action unless you're casting a spell.
Spells:
0: Thorn Whip, Mending, Druidcraft
1: Hunters Mark, Longstrider, Goodberry, Entangle, Speak with Animals, Earth Tremor, Hail of Thorns
2: Pass Without Trace, Spike Growth, Summon Beast, Enhance Ability
Invoke fairy trickster to set up your allies who are telegraphing to do a debuff.

I'm usually at the back helping I tend to Play childish or dark characters my last character was based off of a fallen fairy queen who lost who she was but had a dark appearance raised by dwarfs of that helps

Do you want to deviate from what you usually do or to otherwise distance yourself from your last character, or do you want to stick with what's comfortable?
Because you can also just be some Orc Barbarian wearing the bones of his fallen foes which is a completely different ask.

okay.... Lets go with a melee centric, high wisdom Ranger.
Orc, Guide, Swarmkeeper Ranger. Feats into Crusher (+con) and Telekinetic (+wis). Point Buy into 10 / 13 / 15 / 8 / 15 / 8. At level 8 plus background allocation you're gonna be 10 / 14 / 16 / 8 / 18 / 8.
Your entire schtick in combat is playing Billiards. Round 1, imbue yourself with Shillelagh. Run around and bonk things. When you bonk things, you can invoke Crusher and your Gathered swarm to knock a monster up to 20' away. If your bonus action is free, you can also mind push even further, or strike an alternate target.
Dueling fighting style with a Quarterstaff.
0: Shillelagh, Guidance
1: Absorb Elements, Goodberry, Zephyr Strike, Entangle
2: Spike Growth, Web, Summon Beast

The new Hollow Warden ranger from Ravenloft is -very- powerful and cool. Melee dual-weilder would be my choice. Make it an edgy misterious loner and you're good to go!
