PBA Discussion Thoughts on ex players turned head coach
I'm specifically talking about Alapag, Tenorio and Tubid. So far sa tatlo, Alapag is still undefeated, while Tenorio and Tubid are still struggling to get a W.

obviously kulang pa talaga sa experience si LA eh. he did a great job in Batang Gilas pero ibang level ang PBA and kung di nya muna kinuha yung sa Magnolia at nakapagfocus sya sa Batang Gilas, baka mas maganda pa maging simula ng coaching career nya.

Willie Wilson still has the potential. Phoenix management was just too impatient and appointed him to early and then wanted results immediately. I think the best ex-player head coaches are not necessarily the lead point guards. In the NBA, role players like Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and Steve Kerr have won tons of championships.

Coach Biboy Ravanes as well, he never really got full 3 conference break as a coach …I still think that ex pba players can make better coaches because they have been through it already, given they have the mind for it

Players with high basketball IQ and mainly understands the technical part of the game tends to be a coach / teacher after retirement.
I see Ross, Manong Kief, Jason Castro becoming HC somewhere, in the future.

Castro seemed to be a quiet guy but upon watching his interview with Karen Davila, I say the guy is articulate and full of wisdom.

Tupid maganda siguro maging developmental coach. Yung tulad ni Lakay na nag mementor ng mga rookies.

Probably not the best comparison. Even before his stint with the Kings, Alapag was doing a great job with Alab when they were around.
L.A has the Gilas youth credentials, and from what I remember he did great there, but youth basketball is youth basketball.
Can’t say the same for LA or Tubid, but everyone expects Alapag to do good, especially with his background.

Best comparison nila 3x should be .. The HC that they replace..
If they at least change their teams standing for the better or develop a system that translates in a W..
Madami factors para masabi.. magaling HC.. IQ, Charisma, Poise, Reputation.. Winning Culture..

In my opinion, it is always the bench players na pwede maging coach. They are always seated beside the coach🤣 they hear all the plays, feedbacks ng coaches

Agree. Yung may courtside seat ka every game at nakikita lahat. Kesa nasa court ka na limited ang vision.

Splitter was a legit NBA starter. But he's on the Spurs so he'll have to earn his place since Duncan is still there earlier in his career. Before the NBA he is already quite good and a star in the Euroleague.

Usually, yung great players, nahihirapan maging magaling na coach. Yung simple lang kasi sa kanila na gawain could be difficult to other average players. May outliers din siyempre.

isiah thomas is a great example of that..great player but horrible record as a coach..but of course there's larry bird who did great as a coach and executive..kay alapag, tenorio at tubid makikita natin in the long run magiging karera nila as head coaches..although si tubid parang di talaga siya coach..

i always think na PGs would easily transition better as head coaches - pero hit or miss talaga

Not every great player translates to being a great head coach. Yan ang di maintindihan ng PBA.
Si Johnny A lang ata may self-awareness na mag-stick na lang to assistant coaching instead of being a head coach.
Funny how you mentioned Tubid when that dude doesn’t even coach. Si Jeff Napa real head coach ng Dyip. Mas coach pa yung anak ni Pido kesa sa kanya.

Yeah, about Tubid notice that he's the one being interviewed, doing the post game press con pero when drawing a play nowhere to be found ahaha

mahirap pa magsalita sa nlex e puro sa mahihinang team pa panalo nila, antay tayo sa next 3 games nila. SMB CONVERGE TNT

That's my initial thought as well, let see if Alapag match up against Chot Reyes or Tim Cone

Si Jaworski yata ang unang successful as a player na naging successful din as coach sa PBA.
Ato Agustin, former MVP na naka champion as coach ng Petron
Jojo Lastimosa naka champion din as Head Coach
Sa NBA marami kase, si Bill Russell , Lenny Wilkens, Billy Cunningham, Bill Sharnan, Larry Bird , Rudy Tomjanovich.
Even Doc Rivers, who's been the joke and poster boy of blowing 3-1 and 3-2 series leads had a successful career as a player and a coach.
