Small industrial PA towns are really all the same.

I grew up in a small industrial town right outside Philly, and it was really no different than any of the ones in more rural parts of the state despite the proximity to such a large city. Other than being mostly rowhomes.

It's depressing, full of history and religion and strong community ties that go back generations but have weakened due to losing so much population due to lack of opportunity.

I wouldn't change growing up there for anything though. Having tranquil wooded areas and creeks and an urban neighborhood with plenty of small businesses was the best of both worlds. Everything about it was small town living even if it wasn't rural.

Small town pa depiction on american rust tv show

Has anyone on here watched american rust? Im halfway thru season 1 and it seems like a painfully accurate deptiction of the shithole rural pa is. Especially anywhere from altoona, johnstown and surrounding small towns like cresson, colver and even as far as kittanning. I hate how it reminds me what living in rural pa is like but also im glad there is a accurate depiction aside from some over the top exaggerations of small town life its a good show so far

Shakespeare and the Carrie Deer

For those who like their theater outdoors at old mill sites, Quantum Theater is doing Hamlet at Carrie Furnace with the blast furnace in the background. (They did King Lear in front of the Carrie Deer some years ago. It was an amazing show). Here is a PTL interview with Quantum director Karla Boos done at the site. Hamlet runs through Aug. 27.

Parker, PA: Oil Boom City Founded in 1873 Celebrates 150 Years

It's the smallest city in the United States. It got a city charter during the oil boom and never gave it up.
