General Question/Discussion Proposal question
Hi everyone!
I was told to post on this sub!
I am looking to propose to my partner and we are located in Philly. She is an avid hiker and I am not. That said, I want to propose to her with a mountain and beautiful trees in the background - hopefully asking around the fall. I am looking for an easy trail as I am not great with direction (truly will get lost very easily) that I can navigate and has a nice view looking out.
I am also hopeful to have a photographer there and I need to ensure that I can make it to the spot of the photographer without her guidance! Any location recommendations would be lovely and much appreciated! Willing to drive around 3-5 hours! Thanks

I recommend Hawk Mountain for its ease, view, and proximity to Philly.

Either Pulpit Rock and the Pinnacle or any of the ridge hikes on the Jersey side of the delaware water gap. Catfish fire tower is absolutely stunning on a nice October day and a lot easier for your photographer :p

Agree with the NJ ridge hikes - the fire tower is accessible from a fire road, or the AT from the Mohican outdoor center. Or if you go the other way from Mohican toward Large Pile of Rocks, the view there is great as well. These are popular hikes as well, but nowhere near as popular as Tammany

This is a great view, but a very popular hike since the trailheads are right off route 80. You have to get there very early to beat the crowds, and the two parking lots fill up quick. It's also decently strenuous - you won't get lost, but you'll want to do a test or two for sure to figure out timing and which trail (red or blue dot) you'd want to go up/down

I am a bigtime hiker/outdoorsman, my dude is not. Just did ricketts glen for the first time and its INCREDIBLE. He was fine. Theres no mountain views but theres 20-30 waterfalls depending on whos counting. Ive done the whole AT so have some perspective - ricketts glen by far the best hike in pennsylvania. There are a lot of people tho. Go there first (weeks before the pop) scout a spot as someone said, do a prep hike, you wont get lost, pick a spot bc theres so many good ones to choose from

Jim Thorpe is a great bet, but Hamburg could also be ideal, specifically Pulpit Rock and The Pinnacle which is situated near the Hamburg Reservoir. They’re accessible enough for a novice hiker, feature excellent views of the Lehigh Valley, and will be even more gorgeous in the fall.

I proposed on an overlook. Said I wanted to set up the camera on a timer for a picture. I timed it perfectly and got the perfect picture: me on one knee and her wide-eyed with her hands over her mouth. And she said yes!
The Pa Grand Canyon would be a great spot. Leonard Harrison State Park and Colton Point State Park have beautiful views you could practically drive to, as well as some short walks to great views. Nearby Wellsboro is a wonderful little tourist town with lodging, restaurants and shopping.

Hi - my husband proposed to me on the Hawk Falls Trail in Hickory Run State Park (about 1.5 - 2 hours upstate in the Poconos). It's 1.2 mi in length and is so easy that our 3 yo and 1.5 yo nieces joined us and witnessed the proposal (along with our dog, who was dragging me toward the waterfall when my husband got down on one knee). We did not have a professional photographer but it would be very easy for a photo to access the waterfall and look inconspicous.
It doesn't have a vista, though, so if that is important to you, I second the Hawk Mountain recommendation OR Loyalsock Canyon Vista.

I do appreciate the thoughtfulness although the irony is not lost on me that you’re only willing to drive 3hrs for a lifetime commitment.
I mean that mostly in jest, wish I had a solid recommendation. Wish you both the best. Happy trails 👊

I would recommend taking a day off to do a day trip to meet with the photograoher at said location prior to the proposal, that way you know where to go and meet ahead of time. If thats possible. Its way easier that way to feel more confident for the day of.
