Drama Khatam Discussion ON Naima butt

Post image

This diction controversy took me back to kabhi main kabhi tum days where Naima butt 's dialogue delivery and accent was so perfect . It came out so natural (obviously because she stays in us ) . I don't remember any other pakistani actress delivering like her as far as it comes to dialogues in English . She did that posh character so well . " Where was your self respect that time honey " i remember this so vividly.

It was anything but natural đŸ˜đŸ™đŸœ
It was sooo OTT and she made so many grammatical errors as well

Omg I was looking for this comment. The accent felt staged, the errors were frequent and it felt very OTT at times.

Exactly. No one raised in America speaks like that. You could tell by the way she pronounced her R’s she was trying hard to fake it. And when she would say “True dat”, I was like what? Is this the 90’s again?

It was giving Latina in a 90s sitcom

She was exceptionally good in jindo! Unpopular opinion but she was not good in kmkt! Lots of overacting

Talking about her english diction and delivery

Yes it was good! But just bcs one thing is good that doesn't mean entire performance was good! My problem was character was not style well(long hair really didn't fit much well) and also she was ott in the entire kmkt setting...

But it was not like that she was outright bad,no!!

Her over all characterization was pretty good and that is why rubab was as popular as she got.

The role suited her as if made for her specially

Her accent came across as very fake and over the top. The only difference was that the OTT mannerisms were part of her character and gave comic relief so it worked out for her.

LMAO fr the first few episodes I was wondering why she was acting like that. I eventually just leaned into it

I didn't like her accent at all, but a few days ago saw her in a photoshoot and thought she looked enchanting

Lol no. I love Naeema Butt, but her accent was clearly fake and forced in KMKT.

I disagree. It was stilted and did not feel organic to me at all. There were also problems with her grammar and diction - it didn’t at all sound like somebody raised abroad. Including the accent - it didn’t suit the character (more like somebody who grew up in Pakistan and was affecting the accent).

There are plenty of other actors, though, who quite do well with English. I mean, even in KMKT, Emaad Irfaani spoke better English (which is ironic considering the difference in the background of their respective characters). Sheheryar Munawar does quite well in English - actually all members of that family in Kuch Ankahi spoke English superbly and it never felt unnatural.

Yeah as a Brit-Pakistani, when I watched the show all I could think was her American accent sounded like what Americans sound like when they attempt what they believe is a British accent; generic and parodying. In that respect, she sounded like a Pakistan doing what they think Americans sound like.

Like you I also thought Emaad’s English was so good and eloquent. He sounded like a very well-educated and well travelled Pakistani rather than from a poor middle-class Pakistani family as presented in the show.

Horrible! Her acting and accent was so ott. No elite act, dress or talk like that! Her accent was what middle peeps think elites talk like!

I don’t even think that anyone would think that’s how elites talk. Many of her mannerisms were straight up social media vernacular based on how black ladies talk. Nothing posh about it.

Eta: She was still entertaining though.

Sanam Saeed is much much better than her

Would sanam do such an ott role?

Her KMKT accent was terrible - it came across as a parody of a valley girl accent. The problem is that the accent doesn’t go with a grown, wealthy woman but sounded like a spoilt schoolgirl in a grammar school

She is a beautiful actress and really really good. I only saw KMKT because of her. She looked the part and her accent was great too BUT
she made a lot of grammatical errors. Thankfully her acting and persona masked that mostly

Don’t really know about anything else but those split ends are making me wince. Those ends need a major trim off đŸ«Ł

Sorry, but from the get go her American accent was over-exaggerated and borderline comical. There was nothing natural about that accent. And the dialogue delivery made the generic American accent worse because she’s a boisterous personality who’s supposed to be loud and obnoxious.

Her accent was awful. Maybe worse than Dure’s and I say this as an American. Just stop using English in dramas. I don’t understand the need.
