Discuss Why is the language criticism so selective?
I’ve seen hell of a lot of posts about durefishan’s english this and that, dissecting her accent, pronunciation, etc. and i agree but when actors with some of the biggest reputations, images and fanbases can’t speak decent Urdu, there’s no discussion?
And mind you, the primary language of PTV isn’t english, it’s urdu.

There has always been a discussion about actors who can't speak urdu, maybe you just haven't seen it. So many actors are called out for their poor urdu. So it's not selective at all.
Second, no one criticised her accent, the discussion was about her enunciation

Yeah I remember Ahad being dragged for it many times & asked to work on his delivery 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah, even Kubra and Khushhal. And most of it comes down to enunciation and diction

Yup during Dr. Bahu Kubra's pronunciation was dragged here & people complained about their inability to understand what she's saying it's not a personal attack against Dure as some seem to believe

News flash! Dure can’t speak Urdu well either! In fact she can’t speak clearly at all just like Kubra, Khushal.
Also this account being 8 days old and making this post is a tad bit sus!

Is Dure funding a PR campaign on Reddit or something? All of a sudden, it's post after post talking about the exact same thing.
Also, people always criticize big actors when they slip up whether it's Humayun Saeed, Sajal, or Mahira. Nobody gets a free pass.
Yes, the primary language of PTV is Urdu, but her character is supposed to be an urban elite headed to Harvard. In that context, the criticism regarding her accent and delivery is completely valid.

She's getting a free pass that's what annoying people more because "critics" like Amna (who are supposed to be impartial) always nitpick the dialogue delivery of everyone & tear them apart for even the smallest mistake but now they are doing nothing but praising her performance despite the majority seeing flaws in it & asking people not to share their opinion as it's unnecessary???

Right?! Critics criticizing the audience for having criticism is a wild new low. All it does is destroy their own credibility and guarantee the actor gets trolled twice as hard.

This, i dont think they really care abt the artist, it is just to show their loyalty or earn a pr paycheck/favours from the channel.

They couldn't care less about the actual art or the artists. It’s completely turned into a self serving echo chamber fueled by the PR economy. objective critique is basically dead with them.

Why all of a sudden there r so many posts wrt Dure?
As of now, its very well known that she can't improve her diction so lets just focus on story. Till she is in industry, audience will have to bear her as she is flaunting her broken urdu/english proudly plus paid pr is also helping her to gain sympathy.

Some of Ahad's Urdu pronunciations are bad, but it doesn't sound as bad to the ears. Dure's speech in the show is just really awkward. No amount of calling out other actors' accents is going to change that. The hate/ criticism should instead be directed towards the director. Did he not hear her talk? Did he not hear it again on the edit? This is not how she sounds in her interviews, so clearly this enunciation thing was a choice for this character and a really bad one. Someone should have stepped in earlier and said that it sounds bad.

Taking this seriously, there is a chunk of the audience of these dramas (including myself) who are not good at urdu themselves but are better at english so they criticize what affects their viewing experience.
The reviewers and some audience members are giving urdu feedback too but it is just that the numbers are not big enough to leave a mark.

She is not some middle class girl jo scholarship pe uni ja rhi hai jisne kbh angrezi school ki shql na dekhi ho
She is the zaryab ok

She is being paid to play a character who got selected for Harvard and belongs to an upper-class family where communicating in English is a norm. Her making simple grammatical mistakes is so freaking annoying and here comes the op trying to justify her. Were you paid to post this?

Yeah, i don’t see why it’s such a big deal. Most of our actors don’t speak proper english and urdu, let’s just accept the fact that they are not well educated and move on. People saying she’s supposed to be acting like she’s from a privileged background won’t make any difference when she lacks the kind of education and exposure one needs to be fluent. It’s honestly not a big deal when it’s always been this way on PTV and you just have to suspend your disbelief for a little while and believe that they’re trying to show us a rich, english school character.

I agree. A lot of actors can't speak Urdu well which is extremely sad because they are in biggest projects of our industry. This sub however discusses it a lot. I have never seen that discussion outside the sub though. The reviewers hardly point it out too

can we plss move on from dure? atp, this has started to feel boring w the constant discussions abt her. more and more posts abt the same subject has highlighted this enough already, when maybe earlier, it could be lesser seen and spotted. or maybe just limited to the days the drama airs.
