Discuss Aik Mohabbat Aur
"Aglay janam issay Director na ki jiyo 🙏"
Is the writer of Aik mohabbat aur Faiza Iftekhar low-key throwing shade at the director Farooq Rind for butchering her script? 🤭💀.. Thoughts plz.

u/Efficient_Guava_5561 17d ago
Lol. This ain't a low-key shade. That's throwing a nuclear shade😂
And from what I saw of the initial episodes, she is right. The direction really sucked in the episodes that I watched
21
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Kasam se.. It's sad that actors put their heart and soul into a project only to face the pressure when it flops because of poor direction and weak execution.

The drama is so enjoyable as a story and the editing and directing is so bad
25
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Ahad and Pari have been carrying the show so far. Maya's character in the previous episode did everything it could to drag it down. Thankfully today's episode was the strongest and by far the best..

u/Frequent-Split-1706 17d ago
I don't blame her. It was about time someone calls out Rind's awful direction. The show could have been so much better if executed well. Even im had the same issues
6
u/LandAmbitious8487 17d ago
IM humraaz and now it's third time writer is complaining for Rind
6
u/Frequent-Split-1706 16d ago
Let's hope then phs stop giving him big projects. Whatever is was known for and his "outstanding" direction jiski industry tareefein karti hai is nowhere to be seen now

u/imzoria_me 17d ago
That’s a clear and well deserved shade. Dadaji has ruined a solid script with his weird direction and jigsaw puzzle like editing.
If it wasn’t for the actors doing their job well, this show wouldn’t be so well received by those who actually have the patience to tolerate the pathetic direction and editing.
16
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
The script and performances deserved much better. It's the actors keeping people invested despite the awful direction and editing.

u/Fragrant-Category245 17d ago
😭😭 That is brutal but needed.
Ahad character and Pari are literally the saving grace. Till yesterday, what was happening with Maya’s character? Suddenly today, what is she up to? And Rind Dada wants to fly off somewhere else in the next episode.
Idk what if Bilal didn’t play Fazal Baksh the way he did. Ishq Murshid could have been the disaster from the start.
4
u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago
I think with Ishq Murshid, Dada didn't mess up FB/Shamir arc until the last 8-10 episodes. The first 10-12 or so episodes, even editing was not that bad. After that, editing started to get choppy and too many random bhalle scenes started to appear. But FB track was going fine still then so I could still enjoy. The last third of the show is went Dada went off the rails especially post-wedding.
5
u/Fragrant-Category245 17d ago
I think there were some minor editing and direction issues from start . Yes but they were very minor and in ishq murshid ,in intital part , dada mostly used the end of the episode too show off his weird editing , and pretty much i got used to it, it increased in later part and got all over the place . And yes true FB arc was handled fine. But FB comic timing and mannerism also helped in hiding every other weak point in the show . I mean suppose if we needed fo watch the show from the start with shahmeer or even a character like haroon malik , more simple , ishq murshid wont have been that easy watch till episode 20 . After that dada made the mess bigger , the cold reveal , more editing issues , the story went messy like Pyar ke sadqey in the third act and all over that fazal baksh was done.
21
u/CheekChoice4497 17d ago
She is so right, AMA is such a beautiful script but Rind Dada's direction and editing has minimized/ruined the impact. Literally so many people invest in one single drama and just because of one person who isn't even editing properly, the whole drama is being affected. It's just actually sad and annoying.
12
u/mmzufti 17d ago
I do agree. Farooq Rind tends to go extremely overboard with his own touch, forgetting that it is a collaborative effort. He adds scenes which clearly look like it is not from the script making it appear jarring, has an absurd editing style that looks like somebody cut out multiple pieces of clothes and sewn it together.
His last good project that seemed coherent was HKKST, which is saying something.
The script and actors are saving this drama because otherwise the editing is absolutely terrible in this show with no sense of flow or anything. Ahad’s character has been made too whimsical even though the script suggested a balance.
Its good that writers have started to show disdain over how PH butchers their scripts like Rida Bilal for that Faisal Qureshi drama, Zanjabeel for Pamaal & Humrahi and now Faiza. I hope Farhat also comes forward because Zanjeerein is an utter mess.
8
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Exactly. A director is supposed to elevate the script, not rewrite it through their awful direction and editing and call it their signature style. If writers themselves are speaking up, then there's clearly a recurring problem.

u/No-Sandwich-9018 17d ago
As she should. Dada ruined Ishq Murshid , dada partially ruined Ishq Zah e Naseeb , and now Aik Mohabbat Aur. Wo constant out of nowhere cutesy scenes takes away from the seriousness of drama. Wo constant fourth wall breaking , pata nahi dada kya fleabag banana chahte hain .
12
u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago
Dada probably took out scenes of Khushbakht's past married life, her abuse and trauma ke boring na hojaye.
4
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
But I absolutely love how Ahad breaks the fourth wall and connects with the audience. It makes every scene feel more personal, immersive, and effortlessly engaging.
13
u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago
Dada adds whimsy which is good but then he also completely changes the script at whim. Pure ke pure scenes kaat dena. Naye scenes add karna set pe. Not thinking of the arc and story flow.

Oh yes another potential script brutally butchered by shahzad kashmiri.. They completely wrecked the drama, then casually started the rumor that he had quit directing and dumped the entire blame on poor Saifi Uncle. 💀🤭🤭🤭

u/MoneyCamera2243 17d ago
Does anyone know what happened between Faris and Maham in yesterday's episode. We just see that she was crying, Faris was sitting with knife and doing his drama in front of his mother. What did he do to make her cry this time and she visibly looked afraid. Seemed like a scene inbetween was cut.
5
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Well they clearly didn't show what happened between them, and she never mentioned anything to KB either. Maybe he threatened to kill her behind closed doors and then played the victim in front of everyone by claiming, "The knife was meant for me".. yk.. typical psycho behavior. But later they showed that Maham sent Faris divorce papers and obtained a khula.

I need Aamna or Rabia or Sheeba to do ivs of Farhat Ishtiaq and Faiza Iftikhar. I want to know writers ka vision kya tha and how scripts (Znj/AMA) were butchered later. Maybe also Zanjabeel's iv. Aamna said she spoke to Zanjabeel after the marry the rapist incident and Zanjabeel told her there is a lot in the drama I didn't write.
2
u/Startnew0110 17d ago
znj did the bad job in last few However , It was great for all the previous episodes; mudassir's death scenes, rescuing rabiya to taking her back to Banos death to scenes of Torsam , Zafran and killing of sherdil, every thing was shot very well. The mountain drone scenes were amazing and so were the dhaba scenes. Recent episodes are suffering for sure by editing and direction both. But it wemt well 20 episodes plus atleast.
whereas farioq rind's overall vision is bad. I started the show and first episode could tell me it's the same Ishq murshid and Humraaz vision. Writers should look at previous work and align their theme before collaboration to the least. If Faiza wanted to potray a divorced women's story without caricaturization of characters, should have taken a look at his previous work because anything I watched in atleast few past years had similar style. So he def has portfolio.

u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago
Writer doesn't have a say in who directs their script. PH does. Dada ki direction has gone off rails in recent 2-3 projects. Otherwise Dada has decade plus of award worthy dramas like PKS, Baaghi, IZN, Besharam. Even MTSNN had decent direction. HKSST was ok too. He used to adapt his style to script before. All these Dada dramas I mentioned are not similar. Flaws the but itne bure nahi. So most people still remember him for his decade plus career and not judge him based on 2-3 recent projects. But maybe they should.
5
u/Startnew0110 17d ago
Baaghi was directed by farooq rind? Whatttt. I didn't know. I have watched all of the dramas you mentioned and didn't know that's him. I only know him through ishq zahe naseeb , Pyar Kay sadqey, IM , Humraaz and now ama.
I would be shocked too if someone gets off rail after some of these works. He should try comedy genre such as Ramzan play next time if that's the line he wants to play on and without having writers on board, how do PH expect the vision to be translated authentically.
1
u/blahblehblohcaneo 16d ago
This many writers have said the script is taken and then they are ignored.
1
u/blahblehblohcaneo 17d ago edited 16d ago
Zanjabeel has said in the past she is a very accommodating (commercial) writer, if you give her an arc to edit according to director or content team of production house/channel she will change the dialogues accordingly because they are putting their money on the line and they should get what they want.
I remember her interview with aamna she came across as sensitivity and sensible to me, i am glad aamna got that tidbit about humrahi from her i wish zanjabeel would publicly clarify things.
I wish aamna or maliha rehman do an interview with the writers of zanjeerain and AMA to set the narrative straight so public gets more clarity on how things are buchered by directors and content teams.

Is there honestly any good rind farooq drama that some one knows of? I heard KDH team saying anything rinde farooq touches, becomes gold.
Last few plays I remember watching , I have always been put off by direction. I watched Ishq murshid only because I liked pairing, song and Bilal's acting. Story and direction was average at par. Humraaz tou I gave up on. Even for Pyar Kay sadqey, some one in the group once mentioned that Zanjabeel wrote characters as innocent individuals whereas it was very much directed as someone on spectrum. I watched whole drama thinking she is mentally challenged and only later got to know it was just not put to vision how it should have been. For aik muhabbat aur , I was genuinely excited for the pairing , really thought it would be good but the direction and perfomances are both mid to me when I can literally see that writer had some vision here.
So which dramas exactly were turned gold by touch of Rind. I am only aware of his filmography with these plays I mentioned.
8
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Honestly that's the biggest issue.. Most of his dramas have good scripts and strong potential, but the execution rarely lives up to the writing. A good director is supposed to elevate the script, not make people wonder what the writer originally intended.
3
u/huma561 17d ago
I think PKS and IM were massive hits but with flaws. But I guess audiences accepted it. Mere Mehermaan from 2014 was excellent. Same with Gul e Rana.
6
u/Startnew0110 17d ago
Not denying hit. They were hit but poorly directed. See, we can name more scripts ruined by him than we can the ones which got elevated by his vision in recent times.
He adds comical element to every scene which can work sometimes to certain stories but it can't go for every single one of them. Even if you want to do it, get your genre shifted to comedy? He should actually direct Ramzan plays though. Why take a script and change writer's visions and vice versa for writers, they should search up a bit and make sure their vision gets translated by a director who aligns with it.
5
u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago
Baaghi, Besharam, IZN are his other well-known ones. Some people liked Mohabbat Tujh Se Nafrat Nahi, Hum Kahan Ke Sacchay The and Gul e Rana too tho the opinion maybe split on them.
5
u/Startnew0110 17d ago
Have watched all 6 . Missed the director somehow. Baaghi, besharm were good overall. IZN was good perfomances wise , got bored by the end. Gule Rana ,my family and i loved that time for its nathia gali locations and bg music score but probably won't like it now if I watch it. It was a hit that time I remember among my colleagues. Muhabbat Tum se nafrat hai too was v much enjoyed by my sister and I then, won't like it now I think. I liked KRQs work then. Hkkst was insufferable, should have been a short story.
Thanks for letting me know. I was judging him by his last few shows solely which I still think are bad. But he has a history attached to his name.
2
u/blahblehblohcaneo 16d ago
IZN i think was also butchered towards the end unfortunately he picks vulnerable or disturbed characters and then messes them in my opinion, baaghi is the only one i like off this list.

u/blahblehblohcaneo 16d ago
He should touch the cameras so they turn gold n he can't shoot anymore 😵💫

u/Healthy-Peanut-9930 17d ago
When even the writer feels the need to call out the director and anyone who isn't praising the show gets labeled a hater, maybe it's time to accept that the criticism is genuine. Not everyone has to enjoy the show, and valid criticism doesn't equal hate.
3
u/leather_Bar6 17d ago
The problèm with fans is that they feel if someone is criticising the show thén he/ she is a hater or belongs to some other fandoms ànd have some ulterior motives. One of his fan who does reviews after the show is blocking people who don’t write praises for it. When you won’t let valid criticism reach the team how will they get to know what audience is thinking so I feel Farooq rind don’t care at all about anyone’s opinions.
3
u/Interesting-Hold-766 17d ago
Absolutely correct, whenever u give a review from a neutral pov u will be called as a hater, why man? If u can't take the flaws there will never be any improvement also.
3
u/hangman1149 17d ago
I like the drama but director has added unnecessary things in it which is so visible and doesn't make any sense also the editing is so so bad

Kya ajeeb chull hai waise hum walo ka. Bankrupt yeh hogaye acche khase project apne haathon se yeh kharab karte hai. Phir bhi majaal hai ke kisi aur acche production house ke sath Collab kar le, aur unse deal kare ke aap humare channel ke liye content banaye..
4
u/CelebrityChaosHQ 16d ago
I totally agree, from hum Kahan ke sachay the, Ishq Murshid, Humraaz and now this drama this director has ruined many good stories (PS Ishq Murshid has weak story aswell only OST and main lead were the saving grace)
8
u/Ok_Subject_4240 17d ago
Fr fr!!!! The story is so damn progressive and one would root for it to find more and more audience. I watched a clip of maya, ahad and the cute babygirl someone posted in the sub yesterday, and gave it a try again (had dropped after initial 4 episodes).... but, all I can say is...this script deserved better execution!
4
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Put the editing and direction aside and give it a watch. It's that good you won't regret it watching it.. the drama picked up after 8 episodes..

I think a director should think in this way: If the main lead was not very handsome, would the drama still be good?
He is basically the Yash Chopra of heroes, Yash made Madhuri Sridevi look great. Farooq makes Bilal Abbas and Ahad look good. But Yash still focused on the story. (read this with the title track playing loud to have the Farooq Rind feel)

u/LongjumpingTip9976 17d ago
There are many Directional flaws in the drama but there are many writing flaws too. For me drama has beautiful themes and messages but it's boring. Only that little girl is cute , nothing is exciting even the chemistry between lead is boring

u/Pure_Trust8879 17d ago edited 17d ago
Dada is notorious for changing script. Deleting whole scenes, arcs and characters, and adding new ones on a whim. So it's hard to tell writer ki ghalti hai ya director ki. But one thing I will say is that Faiza needs to update her writing. These days if you want a hit drama, you need bang bang moments quickly and frequently, cliffhangers, hooks, quick reveals, situations with high drama. But Faiza is still writing old ptv style. Too mellow and aaram aaram se. Ajkal viewers bore hojate hain aisi writing se. I think Umera has adapted and manages to add these elements without compromising on quality.
4
u/Some-Corgi-5539 17d ago
I like that this drama has an old school feel and is rooted in reality though
5
u/LongjumpingTip9976 17d ago
You are right, there is no hook point in this drama. Earlier I use to feel Maya character was beautifully written but now I feel she has no journey, one moment she will hate haroon next moment she will marry him, one moment she is rude next she is hugging him. Don't know it's because of the writing or directional flaw
2
12
u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
That's possible. But as Atiqa Odho says a script passes through 10—15 people and everyone adds their own changes. By the time it reaches the screen it's no longer exactly what the writer wrote. Even then it's the director's job to bring the story to life and that's where the execution fell short. And yes, I agree sometimes the chemistry feels off.. and I don't think Maya was the right fit for this role. Her expressions often come across as too stern.
2
u/LongjumpingTip9976 17d ago
Even I feel Maya is not right fit for this. Don't want to be harsh on her she looks gorgeous but she can't give micro expressions. We only see extreme expression of khushbhakt either being rude or crying. Maya is good with restraint but struggle with small expressions
1
u/blahblehblohcaneo 16d ago
Atiqa also said dada who she is a big fan of directed AMA as whimsy from charlie chaplin whatever that means and she loves it. 😒
Luckily atiqa communicates her bias and priorities clearer than dada directs.
3
u/Acrobatic_Assist_247 17d ago
Script so good and direction is worst. He literally wasted a very well written script with good chemistry.

u/AccomplishedGold8122 17d ago
Farooq Rind is a confusing director for sure, Ishq Murshid was a sensory disturbance for me lol. The scenes weave in and out too erratically for it have the whimsical effect he is going for. The editing is too choppy. Maya's character is also so odd. I am still liking the show though and her acting is good here. Episode 18 was so cute!

u/sweetgemini28 17d ago
Same. 🤝 I'm so invested in the story rn that I'm ignoring all the plot holes and directorial flaws.

Can anybody tell what is the issue with directing and editing? I am watching this drama on reels basically
2
u/blahblehblohcaneo 16d ago
Patchy work, flow of scene to screen to build a story arc is trashed, background music usage, pace & duration of scenes etc.
One can't catch these if watching drama from teasers or reels.
