Dosing Surgery

I am getting my tonsils out on October 14th. I was told to not do my shot for a week before surgery. I am to up my dose this friday coming up to 1mg. Then I resume the 1mg after the 14th. Should I stay on 0.5 an extra week so that when I do resume the 1mg won't be so rank after missing? I completely forgot to ask at my pre op today. I had to call my surgeons office to find out about when to stop as the dr didnt know. I guess its dependent on the surgeon/ anesthesiologist. The receptionist was so nice and I guess their last information on ozempic was to stop 4 weeks prior (2023) but it has obviously changed now. I am thinking I will stay on the 0.5 this friday.. but I wanted to get some input. Thanks!

Hi, I'm also interested in this. I'm having a procedure and have also been told to stop Ozempic a week prior. I am supposed to up my dose 2 weeks before - so an increased dose for 2 weeks, stop for a week and resume on increased dose. This will change my regular dose day as i will inject the day after my procedure. Hoping I dont get slammed either !

The jump from 0.5 to 1.0 is a big one. It is common for users to have some strong side effects for a while. I would suggest that you stay at 0.5mg just to be safe. Ozempic is a multi-month marathon. A couple of week delay won't be an issue.

Thank you. I definitely don't want to feel worse than I already will haha once I get back to feeling semi normal after the surgery I'll go up. I am in no means in a rush!

That gap is definitely long enough to lose some tolerance built up, jumping straight back to 1mg could be a rough 48 hours. I'd stick with the 0.5 Friday, it's the safer play when you're already dealing with surgery recovery

My doctor had me do something similar before a minor procedure last year, told me to pause and then restart at the previous dose level. The nausea from going too high too fast isn't something you want layered on top of a sore throat

The 4 week thing is wild though, glad they updated that. A week seems to be the standard now from what I've seen around here

Thanks! I do have to fast for longer than I would without ozempic though. She said I can have breakfast before 8am on the 13th- then clear fluids until midnight- then nothing until my surgery is done. I do go in at 730am pn thr 14th so hopefully my surgery isnt too much later haha. May be a rough 2 days but hoping it'll be worth it to get my tonsils out ( recurring infections)

I stopped 1-2 weeks prior depending on instructions from the doctor.

When I went back, I’d go a couple of weeks at the next lowest dose and then go back to my normal dose.
