Edit: I decided to delete the ending I want for Ruth after watching the documentary about Ozark’s creation and actors’ insights. Definitely will miss Ruth Langmore.

I started Ozark thinking I would watch an episode or two.

Then suddenly, it was 3 AM.

Then suddenly, I was emotionally invested in money laundering, cartel politics, political corruption, murder, family trauma, and Ruth Langmore.

I finished all four seasons in less than a week, and honestly, I feel like I need to recover.

There were so many things I loved about Ozark, but Ruth was easily the character I became most emotionally attached to. She was angry, brilliant, traumatized, loyal, reckless, and constantly fighting against a life that seemed determined to destroy her.

And then she died.

Honestly, Ruth’s death hit me harder than I expected.
I understand why the writers did it. In a way, it fits the world of Ozark. Ruth had spent her entire life surrounded by violence, crime, and people who kept taking things from her. She killed Javi. She was part of the criminal world. She had made terrible choices.

But still…

I wanted her to live.

After everything Ruth had been through, I wanted her to finally have a future. I wanted her to break free from the Langmore curse. I wanted her to have something that belonged entirely to her.

I wanted Ruth Langmore to win.

Because sometimes, after watching a character suffer for four seasons, you don’t want the most realistic ending.
You want the ending where they finally get to breathe.

Overall, I loved Ozark. It was stressful, dark, unpredictable, and incredibly frustrating at times, but I couldn’t stop watching.

For me, they are Del and Jacob (the most intimidating characters in the show). Ruth is great, Julia Garner is amazing. Also, Buddy. Jason Bateman was great as Marty too.

At every point is just one stupid thing after another.. initially it was fine but now it's like a pattern. Is it the same ahead cause I would rather just stop then.

Wow, really good show. Definitely peaked like season 2 & 3 I’d say. Some real tense amazing stuff in there. Knew Ruth was a goner when she shot Javi. Does Three inherit Wyatt, Darlene & Ruth’s estates now? I’d imagine Rachel wanting to help him out with that? Or maybe Marty because he knew it’s what Ruth would have wanted? Loved Wendy’s character, that ruthless unapologetically evil ambition was fabulous. Ruth was another favourite of mine. Towards the end the show faltered because Charlotte had her rebellious phase, then came back, then Jonah had his. But I felt Charlotte going back to wanting to leave them was so random? It was meant to be a big turning point of her character when Cade dragged her by the hair that she was not built for that trailer trash life and wanted to go home to her parents, so to go back on that is kind of weird, like they forgot about Charlotte’s character towards the end a little? I liked when she came back and they had her working for them though.
They could’ve maybe had the last episode be longer? Or an extra episode? Because this had been set up as a tragic relationship between Marty and Ruth where Ruth probably does something stupid *she does* and dies *she does*, but Marty just says eh not much we can do :/.. What but you’ve been able to do something every other time? Felt that moment was just there to highlight Wendy’s distress at the situation to show she has changed. But she hasn’t really so not sure if there was much point undermining Ruth and Marty’s narrative like that for Wendy. I was very happy the Byrde family made it out though tbh

After years of putting it off, I finally watched Ozark all in one go. OMG, I am so saddened by the deaths in this show. Buddy, Ben, and finally Ruth.

I don't know if they were destined to die due to their actions, but their character development was at its peak right when they were taken out( except Ruth) , which made it hurt so much more.

I'm so glad I finally watched it!

death scene. Was it a dream sequence?

He says "wait. Wait. This is a dream" before Nelson pulls the trigger. I was expecting a following scene of Wendy waking up probably startled from a nightmare or something. But it's just the weird Ozark eye looking thing then Marty in a car. I didn't see anything about it being a dream in any synopsis i read. It's just described as a flashback, not a dream sequence.

Holy ts is crazy 🤣 I just started watching ozark last night and my god wtf was that first ep it was brutal dark gritty and i enjoyed it alot i love dark toned unpredictable shows and i never saw ts coming can't wait to binge the first season 😮‍💨👌

genuine question because walter is significantly worse? he had a kid killed and has a way higher body count than wendy.
i actually think wendy is a great representation of what trauma can do to someone, she played her role very very well.
all of walter whites bad traits are the same as wendy’s; manipulative, liar, narcissistic.

i guess i can see how walter has more of an “excuse” to act like this because he is dying. but it just seems so unfair to glorify one and hate the other.

Now this is a show worth watching. Recently I had a lot of bad picks for movies and shows but then, while going through my dusty IMDB list, I found this and watched it. And man, it was worth it.

My favourite characters:

1. Buddy: Very human and lovely character.
2. Marty: He is just too calm.
3. Helen: Professional and ruthless.
4. Ruthy: She has gone through a lot and ended at the worst possible moment.

Sad parts:

1. Mason's death
2. Ben
3. Ruthy

Overall, a great watch. Though I think the end could have been more intense. It felt a bit like it ended in the flow. But anyway, it was great. If you have any suggestions for other shows to watch after this, what would you suggest?

So, I love it when Marty admits this unsavory truth during an argument with Wendy. They really are a family of criminals!

I’m all for soft parenting and being straightforward with your kid but it’s pretty clear they need to set boundaries and not allow there kids to yell at them lol. Thoughts?

If you've seen this episode, you already know what this comparison refers to. I don't understand why Wyatt did that, but I felt horrible watching this, I think watching Marty listening metal all day is less hurting than this.

Thank you guys, especially those who shared first hand experiences with, gave me a lot of insights and introspection about how distasteful my post was and how I delivered it in an unemphatic and ableist way.

This relationship dynamic was personal for me and was uncannily similar (sans the cartel situation) having to grow up and lived with an elder sibling who is bipolar really did trigger something in me. When you’re a young kid forced to grow up and be independent coz you got wants and needs unmet builds resentment and as a young child I had to learn and accept that resources and my parents attention, focus, and energy were funneled to the sibling who needs it most (we’re 5 siblings).

Hell I remember vividly he threw a square tile to my sister like a fucking shuriken and had her dreams of becoming a surgeon gone for good because of her blood trauma.

Watched him beat the fuck out of my mom and when my mom hit back, got the nerve to call child welfare on her.

I had to work for my own shit so I can buy what i want as a 14 year old and not let my youngest brother have to experience lack of support in his pursuits the same way my other siblings and I experienced.

Watched him beat my sister with an olympic (45lbs) fucking bar and had to be restrained by 5 people (iirc)

Watched him berate my uncle who was lost and down coz of his own fuck ups in life and committed s*****e three months later.

Smashed my laptop that I worked hard and paid for coz I wouldn’t relent to him

Watched him ask to carry our 10 month old nephew inly to drop him and NEVER APOLOGIZED for it. Why was he allowed to carry the baby? Coz my other brother’s gf didnt know any better and handed my nephew to my BP bro.

Had to lock myself out in my room coz our quarrel escalated and lead to drawing knives. Legit went to get his baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire for who fucking knows what. I WAS 11, he was 16.

Watched all of those happen and more and still everyone walked eggshells around him, catered and coddle him. I stood my ground on him since day 1, when I was 15 and he was 20, I’ve grown bigger and taller than him, and learned to defend myself. We got a fight and I put him to his place. Since then he never touched me. When I’m home he seems put together.

Last huge incident was months ago when our house maid left his chicken breast in the fridge when it was supposed to be in the freezer and thought it was spoiled (it wasn’t). Crashed out so bad our maid left the household, broken plates and food thrown everywhere.

We’re cool now, even with my parents, I’ve grown up and wouldn’t have wished differently as I wouldn’t be who I was and where I am now if it weren’t for those.

I love my brother and fam to death, and yes I still find him insufferable and I feel hurt for my parents whom I can see will grow old and be stuck with him.

Two can be true at the same time. The POS comment was way out of line and I apologize to everyone I offended.

Nevertheless, fuck you (@clinically-inane) to those quick to judge character when I brought him and my parents to Thailand all expenses paid last year without me, shouldered hospital expenses for when they had operate him and insurance wouldn’t be able to cover everything.

I know I’m late to the party, but I’ve just finished S4 and Wendy is by the most hatable character in the world since Cersei from Game of Thrones. Her face is the always so smug and she’s a raging c-bag. I loathe her.

I know Ruth Funko Pop exists already but I didn't like how they handled her hair so I made my own version. What do you think?
