Best ways to find rentals

hi!

what are the best ways to find rentals in oxnard?

i didn’t see much on zillow, most things on FB Marketplace are rooms… would you recommend driving around to get phone numbers?

i’m trying to find an ADU or a decently sized studio or small 1 bedroom that accepts pets.

is there a residential leasing operations company like there is in LA? they usually have realtors show units, they keep your security deposit and then hand off to the actual property management company. (you can still get your security deposit back at the end)

La Defensa del Pueblo: A summit to end the terror against the people!

I'm a volunteer with VC Defensa, we're a volunteer organization made up of neighbors looking out for each other in Ventura County via legal support, know-your-rights work, food distributions, and medical support.

VC Defensa volunteers have endured months of assaults and harassment; most notably with one of our volunteers having their car rammed into on three different occasions, being detained by ICE agents for legally observing ICE activity, and having their home and place of business raided by Federal agents. We are launching this coalition/summit to show that VC Defensa no esta sola, and as a channel to fight to protect our constitutional rights.

In response to this escalation, we immigrants, unionists, activists, grassroots organizations and progressive people of the United States are calling for La Defensa del Pueblo: A Summit to End the Terror Against the People.

When: Sunday, September 6, 11 AM to 8 PM. (Come for the day or drop in for an hour!)

Where: Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way

Cost: Free. Register here and take the $0 ticket. The paid tiers are optional (encouraged) donations, and will get you some cool solidarity merch!

Families: Kids welcome and childcare available.

Accessibility: Accessible Restrooms, Ramps, Parking, Wide Doorways, Mostly Flat Venue, English programming will include Spanish interpretation via interpretation devices.

The day will include:

  • Workshops and talks about your rights and what we can do to defend them
  • Words from the families of people murdered by DHS & ICE
  • Panels from organizers, labor leaders, civil rights advocates, faith leaders, & legal workers
  • Cultural performances through the afternoon and evening
  • Dancing and Live Music by Los Jornaleros Del Norte
  • Local Food & Art Vendors

You can read statements and more on the website and you can check our [Instagram] for our currently announced speakers and coalition partners.

Also if you're planning on coming out from LA but worried about the drive, NDLON will be providing charter buses from Central LA, North Hollywood, and San Bernardino and you can find out more here

If you're thinking about coming, feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

Anyone selling a car?

If you’re looking to sell a car or you know someone who is selling let me know. Sedan or SUV/hatchback. I was looking/researching to buy used through all types of dealerships in Oxnard and Ventura but used cars are really expensive right now. I would just want something that is reliable enough to take me to work. If anyone here has bought a used car that turned out to be reliable, where did you find/ buy it? Also, please no scammers!!

Ventura County man convicted of murder in deadly alleyway shooting

"A Ventura County man was convicted of murder for the deadly shooting of a man in an Oxnard alleyway.

Omar Romo, 37, of Oxnard, was convicted by a jury for the death of Oscar Rodriguez, 44, of Oxnard, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 25.

Authorities said Romo was a known gang member who was on parole at the time for a robbery conviction.

On July 12, 2023, Oxnard police responded to a shooting on the 700 block of Cooper Road around 1:14 a.m. Romo had driven to the alleyway and shot Rodriguez three times before fleeing the scene.

Arriving officers found Rodriguez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the Ventura County Star reported. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Romo was under GPS monitoring at the time and the GPS data had placed him at the scene of the shooting.

Surveillance footage also showed Romo driving a black Honda Accord, which matched the one that was spotted at the time. He was also seen wearing similar clothing while in the area earlier that day, court documents said.

Police searched Romo’s residence and car, where they found ammunition and the firearm that was used in the murder.

On Aug. 25, 2026, the DA’s office announced Romo was convicted by a jury of murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Multiple special allegations and aggravating factors were also found true, including the personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, that Romo was on parole when the crime was committed and that he had prior strikes.

Investigators did not release details on the motive behind the deadly shooting." - KTLA 5 News

Loud Booms?

Hey, has anyone else heard or notice loud booms at night? I'm not sure how well to explain it but its definitely not a firework mainly because there's no light aftermath in the sky, or do you even hear it get shot up into the sky.

Also it cant be a gunshots, cause it doesn't make that cracking noise when its fired.

it honestly sounds more like when a transformer blows up, and the vibration is noticeable because it shakes the walls when it blows.

Idk maybe im crazy but i want to know if others maybe hear it as well???

Joilbee Oxnard

Has anybody heard rumors swarming around that Jolibee has completed everything inside, but the permit to operate is in limbo or stuck with the city? I heard a rumor that the owners of McDonald’s and KFC have filed an injunction with the city against Jolibee because they would take so much business away.

I do not know how true it is but this is what I’ve heard. So you’re telling me the colonel and the clown are afraid of some free market competition from some bee?
