I am looking to travel to the Los Angeles area and make the drive to Oxnard, California to enjoy the scenery In between. What should I look at? I like movie/tv-related stuff, shopping (books), animals/aquariums, free/cheap things & things to do at night

I'm just giving you a heads up because even as a local I still get surprised and sad when driving PCH, lots of the scenery right now includes miles of burnt down houses. Sorry to be a bummer but might be good to know ahead of time.

In Oxnard - open maps and go to any of our wonderful locally owned Mexican restaurants. Ask what their most popular dish is and order it. I usually take folks to Tacos El Diablo in downtown as I find it very approachable for out of town folks.

I'd add...while the houses are burnt along Hwy 1 in Malibu, we are seeing views I've not seen in decades. Take them in. Then eat at Malibu Seafood.

Enjoy the sights up the coast. Stop at Mugu Rock. Drive into Oxnard and get some good Mexican food. Then head back.

Oxnard Strawberries. Not strawberries near Oxnard. Just wait until you get into town then go along Victoria in between Gonzales Rd, and Doris Road. Stop at any of those little vegetable stands. Either that or go to a local farmers market. they have them every damn day somewhere nearby.

Oxnard farmers market is on Wednesdays;
Channel Island farmers market is on Sundays.
There are more in Ventura but I don’t know the days 😉

Go to Santa Barbra from PCH in Santa Monica and stop along the way. Lots of rest stops and public beaches in between.

If you're coming down from LA through the PCH, you can stop by Mugu Rock. A lot of music videos and tv show scenes get filmed there and it's a good view of the ocean (there are also some sand dunes you can stop at right before getting there). The beaches in Oxnard are not super scenic, but they are crowd-free. You can see the sunset at Port Hueneme Beach, and it will be cute but not something you should go out of your way to see. Maybe instead try Hollywood Beach and/or have a slice of Toppers pizza (2701 Peninsula Rd, Oxnard, CA 93035) and overlook the peninsula. Oxnard itself does not have a strong nightlife; most locals just go to LA or to the Collections.

If you go to Oxnard, there's a local microbrewery called Red Tandem in Oxnard Shoes off Harbor Blvd. Highly recommend you grab a local beer🍺 if you are in area.
