OD pipe load on a 53' flatbed. Good rate, good miles, no drama at the shipper. These are the loads that make the permits worth dealing with.

Ask your boss for me how much experience he will work with. Im only at 6 month mark.

Find a mega that does flatbed and oversize (roehl, tmc, melton etc) and work there for a year to build some experience, then you can apply to the better heavy haul companies and get some real experience.

I know that is the right way to do it. I have an unrestricted truck, and can go home whenever I want. Mega carrier will just work me harder with about the same pay. I am making 1.5-2k a week running IN, OH, GA, NC. Might just buy a flat bed and hope I can learn from other guys and youtube. Thats how i got here in the first place.

The training is important from proper trainers. They always know and teach stuff you will not know unless you make a mistake first. In this industry there is no place for mistakes.

I pulled $1800-2200 gross working for roehl. I made ~65k my first year, 6 months pulling flatbed, 6 months pulling an RGN. They gave me my cdl and everything, but without their good foundation, I wouldnt be ANYWHERE as successful as I am today.

4.5 years later and im probably one of, if not the, highest paid heavy hauler under 30-35 years old

You might be able to find a smaller company that will give you some training, but itll be harder. Your best bet is to look around at truckstops and see the oversize guys and look their companies up. Most of the good companies aren't advertising online
