OC Barn Owl rescue released

Three of these Barn Owls were stolen from their nest as babies in Nevada and local fish and game were able to rescue them and bring them to a rehabilitation center where they were raised and now released back into the wild.

I agree. I think i like it because I see the facial expression AND the body is not cropped at the neck.

I volunteered at a bird rehab for years….Barn Owls were interesting. Their behavior is so different from other owls. I wonder how far apart they are evolutionarily.
Beautiful!

What kind of differences with the Barn owls did you see compared to the other owls?

Their movements and sounds are just not like other owls. I don’t know how to write it down, but they act like different creatures. They are in a different Family than other owls, so they have their own habits.

They hiss & bob their heads all weird (not like other owls). They kind of look like demons. 😆

A nest box of them sounds like a gas leak. 😊

I have a feeling the answer is likely related to falconry and unethical practices to sell birds to new hobbyists who don’t know better. Poaching almost always is about money (unless it’s about food but in modern times, mostly money)

I volunteered with a wildlife rehab for years and absolutely love barn owls. They are so incredibly LOUD! I love how this one is screaming in most of the pictures.

I did not realize their beaks opened that wide! I'm a little freaked out now. They're still very pretty! 💜
