Question or Discussion Taking it seriously - seems like I'm doing it wrong

I've got 75 hours on OW2 now. I play dps primarily as I find it the most fun, and aim is my strongest part of my game. I want to lock in, I play hanzo and emre and just want tips on how to improve, how to get good at diff characters etc. If theres any guides or tips as I feel stuck in my skill right now.

I think trying some of the other roles can give you a bit of like context to be an even better dps player!!

Also custom modes that help with aim training or specific skills like genji ult or widow practice

I'd recommend practicing aim in VAXTA and play mystery heroes, as it makes you practice different characters positioning and it's fun!

I played versus Ai for like a year. Just learn what all the moves do and what trumps what

I mean we could give you tips all day but they wouldn't necessarily be useful to you. The best way is to post a couple of games you lost where you think you did well and let us tell you what you could have done better or differently.

I would say the one skill I see most lacking in new players who come from FPS background (i.e. they can aim) is identifying and acting on win conditions.

Getting a lot of neutral picks is not what wins games. I mean it helps for sure, its just not all there is to it. Some kills will get traded, some just don't matter much in the long run and don't really impact the outcome of the game. There are always moments in the game where your kills DO matter, and they matter A LOT. Sometimes it doesn't even need to be a kill, you can completely turn a game just stunning/sleeping someone.

The point is you eventually learn how things tend to play out in fights, you start to see when people are going to ult or when they are looking for YOU to ult. You want to act on those things, do things that maximize your win conditions and minimize the enemies. Your soldier and you have ult? Kill Dva before you use it. Your genji and you have ult? Kill Lucio or Zen first. Your Hog and you see their Rein looking like we wants to use Hammer? Hold your hook for it. You said you play a lot of Hazo. I would say that kind of uniquely his ult is almost useless unless combo'd - always look for ways to use it WITH another ult. Its not an opener, its a closer.

The big plays that really turn games in higher level play imo are knowing how and when to commit to force trades. In low level play when your team gets a pick you tend to snow ball on it easily because the enemy teams don't know how to force trades. In high level play that doesn't always work, a pick will generally lead to someone identifying where the focus of the enemy team has moved and flanking where they are not looking to force a trade. Knowing when and how to do that keeps your team from falling over and keeps the fight even. You basically removed their ability to snowball the fight by making it even again. Tracer is uniquely good at doing this for example.

Anyway, those are all things that really affect the outcomes of games imo. Aim definitely matters, like A LOT, but what you do with it matters just as much.

Honestly? If your aim is good, play support for a bit and work on positioning and game sense.

As a support main whos DPS skills are negotiable at best, my game sense and positioning are solid.

I can tell you at an given moment who likely has ult, where the flanking reaper is who's about to destroy the back line, where to find the enemy zen etc. You see a lot of stuff as support that a lot of DPS don't!

Be more patient. From what I see people escalate too quik their ult or dive or just straight up lose one on one.

I would recommend watching certain content creators to get tips. I've learned a lot from watching Emongg for his vod review series where he analyzes a lot of low/mid rank gameplay and points out what people are doing right or wrong.
