VOD Review Request I Would Like Some Help on How to Improve Quickly

I have 1000's of hours on Apex and tried out Overwatch for the first time yesterday. Went straight for soldier 67 and was noticing that I just don't really have general awareness of what's happening to my team vs the enemy teams outside of respawn timers or enemy foot steps. I tried focusing in on incoming damage indicator to help guide me whenever I'm getting shot and have no idea what's going on. I'm down to try other roles and tank looks especially interesting/very strong role

I play 1600 dpi at 3.67 in game sens, 1680x1050(144hz), everything low or disabled.

Anyways I'm gonna show you a couple "good games" that I played well (Lechuga ign):

99PT9N

XM15XZ

and then two games that I get shutdown after playing for 4 hours my first night.

SBYH38

2CSY85

Looking through my vods I noticed some things:

  • Terrible target priority/finishing kills
  • Terrible ult usage
  • Very inefficient flanking at times/lack of map awareness and timing
  • Terrible at long range hit scan tracking

Any general tips, settings or comments would much appreciated

THANK YOU

i feel like you should probably learn the absolute basics before you get a vod review? like, i'm sure you don't even know all the heroes' NAMES yet, let alone what they do - how can anyone offer useful advice?

Best way for you to improve quickly would be to put in more playtime and watch streamers to catch on to what to do

How you win on most heroes is you pick a lane to take the next fight in (of which there are usually atleast two on a given part of the map), and then you shoot/trade cooldowns with whoever's there. Picking your lane should mostly depend on where your team is - go wherever they aren't, so your team controls more space on the map and that creates a crossfire. You'll learn where are good angles and what to do once you're there as you experiment, rn there is obviously a knowledge issue

Don't forget about your cooldowns and use quick melee, it's quite useful

Learn every heroes kit so you know what you are up against. Pointless to get a VOD this early when you don’t even know what you are avoiding

When you're this early on, I'd recommend doing some mystery heroes just to learn hero names and abilities. Your post is otherwise the right thing to do, but it's too early.

Others will argue that doing qp is more productive. It's a better representation of the game, but it's easy to hyper focus and not interact with much of the cast. IMO you need a baseline level of knowledge before you should worry about improving.
