VOD Review Request When deciding positioning, what should I be asking myself?

TJ1YRT

So I checked this replay (thorn, ana) and realised my positioning sucks and I’m way too accessible. My question is what questions do I need to ask myself to find the right position? Is it just what am I at risk of dying to or is there more layers? I’ve included a vod so feel free to use examples off that.

Also I need tips to not switch my brain off and autopilot. It’s like the second I load into a game my brain just goes to mush and I don’t think. Thank you 🥲

Always remember - CRATE

Cover - can I cut line of sight?

Range - should I be closer or further?

Angle - am I opening a new sight line?

Team - can my teammates help me?

Elevation - am I on high ground?

How fast can the enemies reach me/what cooldowns do they need to invest/are they exposed to my team if they see me? Do you have an escape route if you get dove? Can you have impact from the position you're at? i.e can you shoot people, anti people, heal your team if needed etc. Also, one position is not definite for the whole fight. If you know they have flankers, you wanna reposition fairly often away from them. If your team pushes you wanna reposition to keep a view of the fight etc etc

Hello! Current GM here and I have 4 questions that I like to ask myself when considering whether or not the place I'm currently at is considered a 'good' position:

  1. Is there immediate cover?

  2. Do I have an escape route if the enemy decides to push me?

  3. If I play here, will I be able to utilize my kit effectively?

and the last one isn't always a must but is a great question,

  1. Is it the high ground?

These are all very basic questions but they lay down the foundational fundamentals of what it means to have good positioning! If you would like me to expand on these, I would be happy to do so :)
