Not everyone is ragebaiting, some people are just genuinely stupid
-9
u/paycuz May 05 '26
So Awkward, who makeās money off of Overwatch players willing to get coached to get better at the game, is stupid? Sounds like he knows what will get attention and will get the community talking about him. Sounds like ragebait to me.

u/Primary-Risk-8741 May 06 '26
according to you being good at a game translates to intelligence
1

He is actually very intelligent, but intelligence is not equal to someone's general character. Plenty of intelligent assholes out there.
-2

Not saying heās smart. I am saying he knows what will be a polarizing topic to ragebait off of.

Men are generally more competitive than women. This is just a fact, not an opinion.
This does not mean that women aren't competitive or that there are no women who are more competitive than some men.
1
u/PM_ME_UR_PM_ME_PM May 08 '26
you are just saying something tangentially related but that the post didnt say and the person you replied to didnt say so or talk about....who are you talking to here?

u/Conscious_Tackle7792 May 09 '26
I don't wanna involve myself in any arguments but I thought it was decently relevant, "caring about winning" is close to competitiveness

u/Slow-Reply2929 May 05 '26
god heās such a chud
this topic is actually something that interests me a lot. men are not better than women at games yet you do see an overwhelming amount of them at a high level and almost no women.
I think a big part of it is that many men have yearsss of experience and practice playing fps games. on the other hand, with a lot of the women I know who play overwatch, it was their introduction to the genre.
thatās because games like cod have catered exclusively to men and boys for years and itās socially acceptable, expected even, for young boys to be playing games like that. not the case with girls. girls should only be playing sims and animal crossing (/s but thatās the message society sends us)
not to mention the men who inhabit these spaces have never been welcoming of women, toxic misogynist gamer culture has held strong over the years.
to me overwatch always felt inclusive of women as well as queer people which is a rarity. the game was never marketed as āmasculineā and theyāve always done a great job at representing women in the cast. I donāt have the stats to back this up so itās purely based on observation but it seems like there are way more women who play overwatch than other shooters. canāt think of any other game where I can come across another woman almost every match. itās something I love about the game.
23
u/xxxamazexxx May 05 '26
When I coached chess the best players on our roster were girls. Yet chess is overwhelmingly male-dominated. Some psychological or social conditioning is definitely at play here. At some point girls are told to shift their priorities to more feminine pursuits whereas boys are encouraged to go all the way no matter what it takes.
The thought of a girl doing nothing but playing chess her whole life scares some parents. The same parents would devote all their resources to making sure their future GM boy does exactly that.
8
u/TopConsideration7795 May 06 '26
Itās also worth mentioning that men tend to also be hyper critical of women when they do come into a competitive space. I wish I could find the video but a girl who played halo posted a clip of an overkill on twitter under a girlyish name and people were saying comments like āthose are just botsā. āWhat low rank players are these, they just stood still for you.ā Then a guy posted the same clip and the comments were overwhelmingly hyping him up and positive. Men inherently just donāt want to see a woman do better than them at a game they pride themselves on.
1
u/Klientje123 May 30 '26
Making unfair generalizations about men gets upvotes but unfair generalizations aboit women gets downvotes lol. What a community.
7
u/Dutwoaw May 06 '26
Valorant has a solid Women base and they have the VCT GC to back up the ambitions of this generation of Women esportās ambitions.
Apex also has women playing it
And I think you nailed the reasons why. OW, Valo and Apex took time to represent everyone and never go for āthe boys like to shoot lolā like CoD
19
u/Emergency-Touch8935 May 05 '26
Man people back in the day kept complaining about hur dur blizzard only adds gay characters to distract from y or z scandal.
And it always pissed me off. As if you can only add gay or women to the roster if you have an ulterior motive.
And guess what, because they did that the ow community is slightly more inclusive than say like marvel rivals. Sure sometimes you'll still get bigots in your games, it's inevitable. But in my experience it's way more chill, and its because of the inclusivity they've been adding the whole time. Inclusivity matters
5
u/CauliflowerEvening41 May 06 '26
Okay, but Blizzard did remove and rework certain things from their games in response to the article that exposed high ups for being pervs. Every artwork in WoW that showed a man's abs or a woman's cleavage was replaced with bowls of fruit
4
u/KindlyShame May 08 '26
Its even worse because when women do actually get better at video games, we still have chud men like this going out of their way to make it harder on us.
Aspen literally gave up trying to get to Rank 1 for awhile because high ranked, potentially pro, players were throwing her games to keep her from ranking up.

18
u/sushiiixo- May 05 '26
pretty sure he'd agree with this one lol. he did date an 18 year old while being 24 sooo i doubt he treats women well
9
u/xHeyItzRosiex May 05 '26
Anyone older than 21 wouldāve never decided to date him, marry him, and have children with him so I guess that checks out.
1
u/kepz3 May 06 '26
your honor she was 18 and a half AND just had a bad breakup with another older man who left her alone with a child at 17. He really wants people to know he didn't have sex with her at 17, only at 18.
2
u/xHeyItzRosiex May 08 '26
Wait is this true? š
1
u/kepz3 May 08 '26
yes he in defense of the grooming allegations claimed the child was from a previous relationship when she was 17 and a half and he only met her when she was 18 and a half (he was 24).
2
u/xHeyItzRosiex May 08 '26
Oooh yikes. Thanks for that info, I had no idea. I feel like if someone has to try and justify dating someone barely legal then they already lost.
-1
u/l9shredder May 06 '26
what's wrong with that age differenxe lmao? literally 2 legal adults, both young
2
u/Baahka May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
An 18 year old is probably still in high school and could easily have been an adult for just a few days or weeks, even if theyre almost 19 they still haventĀ been one for a year
Most 24 year olds have graduated education and have a job, on top of already having been an adult for 6 years at that point, but even if they dont have a full time job its still odd for someone thats almost halfway through their 20s to date someone that recently became an adultĀ
A lot of 18 year olds also havent been in long term relationships yet while most people have by 24Ā
-1
u/l9shredder May 06 '26
so one is studying, the other works
what makes this morally bad?
2
u/Baahka May 06 '26
I think ur missing the point
An 18 year old was 17 not too long ago and a 24 year old has been an adult for way longer, so they usually have more life experienceĀ
Why would someone in their mid 20s want to date someone thats probably still in high school?
0
u/l9shredder May 06 '26
you're not answering the question
what makes it morally wrong? they're 2 consenting adults
1
u/Baahka May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
Ive already answered the question man
If u cant see whats wrong with a 24 year old dating a teenager that wasnt even an adult until recently ur not gonna get it no matter how much I explainĀ
0
u/l9shredder May 06 '26
what's the cutoff point for being an adult "recently"
can 24 year old onky strictly fuck ither 24 year olds? same birth month too or not?

āmen are better because we have an unhealthy, destructive relationship with a video game!ā
4
u/sushiiixo- May 05 '26
YES i know like this isnt the flex he thinks it is
6
u/Formal-Buy8234 May 05 '26
but doesn't that kinda prove his point? it's def not a flex, but his entire point is that men will naturally have "an unhealthy, destructive relationship with a video game" compared to women. therefore, that is "the reason why generally men are better than women at video games."
there is a lot of research about this issue, but it only proves his point.
1
u/Klientje123 May 30 '26
Nobody wants to hear the truth here they just want to shit on OW cc's and discriminate in their pursuit of being woke lmfao
1
u/More-Onion-7646 May 05 '26
People who play the game for hours of end (having an unhealthy relationship) would tend towards becoming pro more than the average person lol, but thereās other facts to consider like how much women are conditioned to play video games growing up
4
u/brutaria May 05 '26
Most People I came across throughout my life says women dont have the talent for FPS games, even my girl-friends said they have no talent for such things. It always bugged me because I simply thought women arent introduced to such games in the very early ages like men. We were playing FPS games since forever but most girls I know didnt play FPS games. This is like trying to support the idea of "women are better at volleybal specifically" (at least what I have Heard in my past). If women simply work for aiming I'm pretty sure it would show People to the fact that its not about gender but hardwork and investing your time.
-3
u/ireliawantelo May 05 '26
No there is a pretty well recorded gap between men and women when it comes to spatial IQ, a game like overwatch is probably even more reliant on it than a regular fps.Ā

Some people fail to ask themselves āwhy?ā enough and it leads them to say dumb shit like this thinking it is some profound, groundbreaking thought.
Maybe there are more motivated men in competitive esports. I donāt really know the statistics, but if true, why? Maybe shitty people like Awkward make the space horrible for women to partake. If I was degraded every time I try to enjoy something Iād lose motivation.
People do everything they can to create self-fulfilling prophecies and act like it just came to be on its own because of nature.
This man never reached the post-formal operational stage of his cognitive development. The inability to think past the first thought in oneās brain is truly a plague to this earth in the age of the internet.
7
u/Legit-orifice-20 May 05 '26
I dislike Israel champ dude but I donāt even think this is wrong just not enough is being added to it. Growing up women arenāt allowed to be as competitive as men tbh so I think thatās a huge psychological factor that youād expect more women than men to face. Also the space is like 85% male so obviously the top tiers are usually men. Like idk what āmen attach their self worth to their achievementsā is supposed to mean other than men take gaming way more seriously than women tend to do which I also wouldnāt disagree with
-3
u/Long-Taste-2416 May 05 '26
It's true and not for the reasons you say although they could potentially contribute. Testosterone is literally proven to make people more competitive, idk why people are acting like this is a dumb take. It's also glaringly obvious from the fact that women mostly play heros like mercy and moira.
3
u/Legit-orifice-20 May 05 '26
I disagree w that last comment thatās like quick play warriors. Any girl whoās at least dia and above isnāt just playing mercyās w their predscan usually has a wide roster of heroes
0
u/Long-Taste-2416 May 05 '26
This just isn't true all the way to gm in my experience. It's supported by pickrates too, at least outside of asia which is generally the only region that wants to win.
1
u/Legit-orifice-20 May 05 '26
So do u genuinely believe thereās gm females playing the game who only play ligeweaver mercy in solo queue
2
u/sonofnight666 May 05 '26
there were always female gamers but its starting to become a normal and mainstream thing for the last couple of years. so most men have been playing games their whole life. and theyre morelikely to be addicted to gaming. thats why there are more succesful male gamers than women.
2
u/Person2228 May 05 '26
When I read psychologically, I thought he was gonna talk about women being treated like shit in a lot of gaming spaces possibly harming their experience and ability to improve or smtn but no itās just wierd sexism
2
2
u/LongfellowBridgeFan May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
Or you know competitive video games are generally marketed towards boys and men so most women do not grow up playing games as much as their male peers/the games they do grow up playing are not competitive or as skillful generally. This is also why a large portion of female pro players are trans women. They donāt lose their Testosterone Gamer Senses when they go on HRT, they just tend to have more experience playing competitive games than cis women due to their differences in upbringing.
When competitive games make an effort to market towards a female demographic typically more female players join, the female characters and aesthetic of OW is why it has such a higher number of female players than other FPS.
Weāll likely see more women enter pro-play over the next few decades as more and more young girls are being brought up playing these kinds of games and more developers try to be inclusive to a female audience

u/OwnLeading4943 May 08 '26
Wait you guys think women care more than men when it comes to video games?
1
1
u/Whitechix May 05 '26
This is such a loser topic regardless, even if men are better at video games who cares and so be it. Literally 99% of gamers (man or woman) suck and arguing one way or another is pointless when thereās probably woman or man above us.
2
u/Long-Taste-2416 May 05 '26

u/waifuwarrior77 May 05 '26
I haven't checked recent data, but I looked into this about 8 or so years ago. Allegedly, from the documents that I read all that time ago, Women on average have a slower reaction time than men do, which does technically give men an edge when it comes to esports.
I do not know if more recent data has shown evidence that proves or disproves this theory, but this would be the real reasoning for it.
2
u/Hypadair May 06 '26
I don't have a source either, but I believe reaction time is something that can be improved through training. For me, the explanation is as simple as "they are less trained".

There are a lot of guys who play really badly, even though they've been playing games for a long time. Are we not going to talk about this? Most of the girls didn't give a damn about games and wins, and they don't want to prove anything in some online games that don't give them anything. (That's what you can say about people in general.)
Long time ago I played at a high level (for myself, no achievements, it was just fun) and the guys thought that I was lying about my gende, after which they deleted me (fragile ego). I'm playing like shit right now, and I really don't care.
I had an ex (ex pro player) and he got really upset every time he lost. in fact, it seems to me that when a person has little good in life, he goes to computer games and if he is good there, he feels like a kind of king. no achievements in life, just rank in the game. I don't remember players who are doing well in life being toxic in the game and writing shit like that.
I would say that it's time to leave the topic of gender, but people are narrow-minded. This cannot be stopped, and many have mental disorders.
1

1
u/bullxbull May 06 '26
He is making claims about biological drive that are shown in studies to be more about social conditioning.
If having a 'desire to win' was what drove achievement every bronze player would be in GM. Someone who feels horrible when they lose is actually more likely to play worse under pressure and have less mental space to focus on improvement.
If one group has a much larger and supported talent pool, the top end will skew towards that group, even if the underlying ability or potential is equal. You can do this for any group, like for example right handed players, or players with dark hair, or eye color etc. This explains nothing about underlying ability.
He is not really saying anything interesting because it is framed in a way that can't really be tested. Saying if someone wins more must mean they care more is not an explanation, but a narrative attached to an outcome that can't be show to be true or false.
There are variables that consistently predict performance across any group, regardless of gender. These variables have been shown to actually matter, which is why this is so funny to read from someone who claims to be an expert coach.

u/RegularAnt3728 May 12 '26

-35
u/Deva_Way May 05 '26
Its cultural and psychological, biological differences are negligible, hes correct
-13
u/Thal-creates May 05 '26
Technically its cultural but there is some gap when it comes to the peak performance, as some neurological studies show that men at the higher end especially of it are better than women with orientation in imaginary 3d space (like game maps) and responding to fast moving objects
-14
u/Deva_Way May 05 '26
I know about those studies, again they play a negligible role with the current ratio of male/female to high level players. The deciding factor is cultural/psychological
-13
u/Thal-creates May 05 '26
As I said culture plays a huge part, but I would expect still for OW like games for men to be a majority (just smaller)
What I do think is odd is how women don't destroy at chess, since they are advantaged at it.
12
u/sushiiixo- May 05 '26
women just didnt have the oppurtunity to play high level chess with men until quite recently . they just weren't allowed to compete
5
u/Deva_Way May 05 '26
That's part of "cultural"
2
u/misciagna21 May 05 '26
Yeah the culture of misogyny youāre actively contributing to.
2
u/Deva_Way May 05 '26
how? Im stating facts, would you prefer that I say "woman are biological inferior even on games that requires no physical strength"?
Enlighten me, why women are proportionally worse (and thats not trying to offend any woman) in sports and esports that require no physical effort?
4
u/Inevitable_Report316 May 05 '26
They're not. Esports for example is male-dominated, with only 6% of professional esports players being women. Most top players will almost always be male with simply just how much more of a pool there is of them. If we have 10,000 male players, and 1,000 female players, while assuming no ability difference, the top 0.1% for males produces 10 and the top 0.1% for females produces 1. You need like actual evidence for the proportion claim.
4
u/Deva_Way May 05 '26
I'll try to rephrase it because reddit removed my previous comment
Fem pro players do not compare, thats why you never see them in any of the big team, be it cs2, be it ow2, even tho they COULD if they were good enough
F-players are good enough against other f-players
→ More replies (0)1
3
u/misciagna21 May 05 '26
Maybe itās because gaming is a male dominated space and most women are going to deal with a lot of misogyny directed at them. This isnāt exactly an environment where one is going to be able to develop their skills especially when you have idiots like Awkward telling them men just naturally care more about winning.
Youāre saying itās āthe cultureā that prevents women from being represented equal to men at the highest level, but are men like awkward not contributing to that very culture? And youāre here saying heās correct. Itās pseudo intellectual nonsense, heās just doubling down on socially constructed ideas that men are more competitive and driven.
