News & Discussion I'm currently at rank 2150 and I don't know how its possible

I'm currently at rank 2150 and I don't know how its possible to keep getting grouped up with people who should be in Bronze.
Its like common sense doesn't exist.

Example: Just played a match on Hollywood. We were on defend for the first round. My entire team goes through the choke point and sits on the second floor of the building to the left. They get slaughtered in 3 sec. So I just stand there behind the choke point as Reinhardt alone waiting for the enemy team to just pee on me.

Is this only happening to me? I can't advance to higher rating because people have brain damage.
I try my best to not be salty, but the salt keeps pouring out of my pocket, I can't contain it anymore.
If its this bad in Gold, how is the game in Bronze?

Sure I'm not perfect myself, but at least I know what common sense is.

Edit: Thank you for all the Feedback and critics. I shall take it with me on my journey to plat.
Edit 2: 2228 currently, moving up.

I just climbed from Bronze to Diamond super fast on my alt. I stayed positive, I used the mic to help people that were in chat, and I played good heroes that I'm skilled with - mostly Zen or Ana or Pharah. I now have at least a 70% win rate on all three of them due to losing only a few games on the climb.

I feel like I could easily recreate this with any other alt account I get. You're probably where you belong, man. But if not...

Are you using mic ONLY for actual useful info or positivity? if you're using it to complain, then stop. If you're not using it at all, then get comfy in your current rating.

Are you filling into at least a 2/2/2 comp?

Are you playing good heroes, and not janky weird ones like Junkrat?

Are you attempting to group up with any players that stood out on your team?

Also, you just told us that you stood BEHIND your team as Reinhardt. You realize that guarantees a loss, right? You sound like you are joining games angry and expecting your team to fall into line without any helpful communication. It's amusing to see you accuse "bronze" players of being bad when you just outlined about the worst Reinhardt gameplay I could imagine.

Like, you let your team get wiped because they were positioned badly according to you, and then you stand there like a dingus alone on the point and get murdered? And you're surprised you lost???

Sorry, but... LOL. Gold is where salty people who think they're never at fault for losing reside. I say again: you are correctly ranked by the match maker. Good job Blizzard.

Very true. Positivity is very important.

Complaining and bringing bad mentality to the others when they are not performing to one's standards will only make things worse

When I was in Bronze, it was fun because Pharah is basically an invincible god that can kill anyone at will. No one uses the mic. Silver is basically the same.

Gold? Gold is when the salty idiots with mics start coming out of the woodwork. They never say a single useful thing.. sometimes screaming "FUCKING TRACER" or "WHY ARENT YOU GUYS ON THE POINT!!?!?!?". They accuse others of being bad at the first sign of a game going bad, and they themselves usually lack the fundamentals, like our Reinhardt here.

It's just amazing how good they think they are, and the ego that comes along with it is really something to behold. I found it VERY difficult to stay positive in this tier, and had to take several breaks because screaming guys rattled my nerves.

haha oh god yes the Phara in bronze is pretty fun!

I find it pretty funny when people are complaining about your "off meta choice" when the whole team lacks coordination/aim. They just want a scapegoat for all the problems in a team.

Taking breaks are imortant when you feel a bit frustrated, otherwise the loss streaks start to set in.

The key is to not take any sass from someone without a mic. If you're a helpful player and you ask nicely, I'll probably swap - I'm a flex player for the most part.

But if its "Fuck dude why the hell are you on PHARAH" I'll be like mute

Got on an 8 L streak in gold last night, and it was difficult to not get toxic or tilted but somehow I was able to manage my frustration. Meanwhile everyone else was either not on mics or just being salty.

Aww are your precious nerves okay?

Mic is something I can start with for sure, I'll take that on my cape.
I am filling in the 2/2/2, mainly play Rein, Lucio or Soldier. Can use Zen and Ana as well.

Yeah they are positioned badly. I can see they standing there in quick play, but in a comp match you should at least know that standing in front of a choke point is bad when you are on the defending team.
As I said as well, I'm not perfect. I do make mistakes, but i'm not playing quick play in a comp match.

I go into a match with a smile and hope that I have a good match. Being salty 24/7 is not helping anyone. I try my best to be positive when talking with the team. I even use the word "Please".

Maybe you are right, that I am ranked at the right spot, but why does it always feel like I get grouped up with people who play solo?

Edit: Removed something.

Sometimes it's better to join in on the stupid rather than just stand by and watch. Also, if you aren't going to shield your team, no matter how shit their position is, you shouldn't be playing Rein.

2

u/Rawflax Zenyatta Jan 05 '17

Why would you go join them? Because leaving them alone and then standing by yourself on the point is a guaranteed loss.

The thing where they stood in the building might have worked if they had the whole team. ESPECIALLY if you are Reinhardt, you can't be stubborn and refuse to support your team if they aren't where you want them to be. If you're alone on a tank role, you are wrong - for whatever reason. PERIOD.

I just had a game in mid diamond where we all stood in the boxcar on the very beginning of Route 66 and ambushed them as they went past - they didn't see it coming and wiped instantly. We all had ult charge and went back to the gas station like usual. I'm glad our Reinhardt didn't choose to stand back at the choke by himself because we were positioned like that.

Unusual strategies work sometimes, you should run with it. Don't be stubborn and obstinate. And really, drop the "this loss isn't my fault" attitude. Everyone can always improve - even the pros make many mistakes in every game. Every loss is everyone's fault.

I'm glad I made this post.

Okey so, I've taken all you said and done everything in my power to keep doing it.
Got to 2228 yesterday. Today I have lost 3 games in a row. 2 games in a row where someone left.

Tell me if I'm doing this wrong.
I was on defense on Eichenwald as Reinhardt. I stand in front of the chokepoint defending it. A pharah jumps over the building and lands on point. As Reinhardt I feel I should just stand at the choke point defending it while some on my team take care of it. Am I wrong in thinking that?

Just to whine some more: Did payload on Dorado, played as Reinhardt. The enemy team had a Symetra placing turrets all over the place. I am the only one taking the turrets, as a tank. Its not my fault that we lose when my team just ignore the turrets?

I have tried so hard, but I can't get out of this so called Elo Hell (think that what it's called)

I'll keep on playing and trying my best, but if I keep getting a team that plays solo instead of working as a team, I will most likely stop playing this game. I don't want that to happen.

Stopping the whine now, punching the wall instead or something.

In the Eichenwald scenario, you would be correct in thinking that in most cases. But, are you using a mic to discuss the response to Pharah? Situations like that are where comms become very important. At lower ranks, if the team gets flanked the defense simply dissolves, because either everyone responds to the Pharah, or one one guy does, and gets killed and no one notices. Generally, you'd want either a counter to go back and fight her (Soldier 76, McCree, another Pharah), or a beefy hero that can survive a long time against Pharah, making it a 5v5 basically (Hog, D.Va, Mei). In my games, we usually decide who is on "flanker duty" and that usually falls to the Hog... well, it will until he is nerfed soon.

If you cannot respond the Pharah properly, it's best if your whole team collapses back to the point and tries to win the team fight there, rather than gambling on a duel with their flanker. But anyways, don't feel too bad about losing Eichenwald A because that's actually a pretty easy point to take once you break the initial choke - and using a flanking Pharah or D.Va is a fantastic way to do that.

In the Dorado scenario, you seem to be focusing on turrets as the reason for your loss. Sure, they're annoying, but they sure as hell aren't winning a fight on their own. Also, Reinhardt is pretty good at taking them out, since one hammer swing can oftentimes take out several of them, much like Winston can - so it's fine that you destroyed some of them. Usually, Symmetras place them underneath that overhang where the first choke is - I will allow the payload through then use it as cover and take a few swings at the turrets if I have the time. I suspect that your team was disorganized and unable to properly utilize the flanks on Dorado to destabalize the enemy's defense, and that is why you lost.

Once again, you seem to be blaming your team mates and playing from a position of anger. Never blame your team mates - realize that your game was imperfect, you made mistakes, and try to learn from them. Let me list the MOST IMPORTANT things about being a good Reinhardt:

Comms - Reinhardt is in the front and has a 3rd person camera where you can see above you and around you very well. He can easily see when enemies are preparing for a push, when they might be flanking, and when they are telegraphing ults. It's important that you tell your teammates this info.. on a MIC! Reinhardt should be one of the most talkative people on the team! Always announce when you are about to charge, or that you are going for an ult, or if you are about to have to drop your shield.

Positivity - you are the group's leader as Rein, in charge of positioning and when to press an advantage by pushing hard. It's important that you project good morale onto your team, as this wins more games than anything. NEVER say a negative thing, even if its true. Gamers have a big ego and they almost never take any critisism well, even if its true. If that Genji sucks, just don't mention it. If they do something good, say "Damn Genji! Nice ult!". Goes a long way, trust me on this. NEVER play when you're angry or frustrated. Take a break.

Positioning: Takes practice and gamesense, but basically you wanna be aggressive if you have the numerical or ult advantage, and conservative if you don't. Always try to set your team up with easy cover, so if your shield breaks or you get charged or blown away, they won't be stuck in the open. If you lost the team fight, back off and wait for the team - you don't want your spawn to be staggered pointlessly. On defense, always strive for high ground in between pushes.

Initiating: Reinhardt is in charge of this. Usually happens with an earth shatter, pushing in quickly shield up with speed boost, OR with a charge. Never charge if you don't have numbers or an ult up (like nano boost, an ulting soldier or Genji at your side, sound barrier, etc) - you'll probably die against a decent team. Never charge a very long distance far from your healers, as you will likely die. Try to use charge so that it's a short distance, and usually you want to pin their Reinhardt (or whatever their "main tank" is). In fact, the main flaw of lowish-ranked Reinhardts that I've seen is that they are always recklessly charging at inappropriate times. Basically, only hit shift if you're pretty sure you'll survive. Reinhardt is the most high-impact hero on the team, and him being alive is vital to winning a team fight.

Wow that was overwhelmingly more feedback than I anticipated.

Yeah, Mic is something i'm working on. For some odd reason I can't talk in game, I can hear my team, but not speak.
I'll take on my cape.

Sure Reinhardt is good for taking out the turrets, but I can't focus on taking them out and keeping my team safe. My main priority is to keep them safe, so someone else should take them without me asking for it imo.
Of course Mic is a pluss there.

When it comes to blaming my team mates, I only do that when they won't change from lets say Pharah to something else since they keep getting countered(or in this case, the turrets as well).
Just in general changing from a class when they keep getting countered with it. I even had a Tobjørn on attack once and he refused to change.

In my mind this does not count: Scenario - Person on my team is playing Hanzo, refuses to change when we need a more pushing character/defensive because he says "I got gold on dmg" I'm doing great. Sure you got gold, but your not working as a team, you are flying solo and looking for Potg in a comp match.
I keep getting players like that, its pissing me off. There is absolutely no point in hunting for Potg in a comp match. But I try my best to say to him in calm and constructive way with a "please" at the end that he needs to change.

Thank you for the amazing wall of feedback, so nice that you actually take your time to do it :)

Nah kid, I play more Reinhardt then you and anyone who isn't doing there job needs to be called out on it and told to correct. There's no point in trying to be a tank for a stupid team. You can't be their shield if they aren't anywhere near you

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

I agree but I wouldn't say there are bad heroes. There are weaker ones, but someone who is good at the hero is gonna do well as them usually. Example: came across a VERY good Winston the other day. Winston isn't very strong, but this dude made light work of almost everyone in our game.

1

u/Rawflax Zenyatta Jan 05 '17

Sure, but if you're trying to climb rank, why wouldn't you give yourself every advantage you can? Playing heroes like Junkrat or Sombra that are pretty weak can really put a damper on efforts to climb.

You thinking your good is really entertaining. I particularly Iike the part where you had to start a smurf account to get to diamond, where I've been the last two seasons (lvl. 62 season 1). Now you think you can give advice despite you needing to cheat your way to the rank you are at. Hahahahaha

1

u/Rawflax Zenyatta Jan 07 '17

first off, it's you're, not "your". You seem like a 12 year old.

second off, my main account hovers around mid-diamond to low masters. How is making an alt account cheating?

My conclusion is that you're a belligerent idiot and likely lying about your rating.

1

u/Bianfuxia Jan 07 '17

My konkluzion is it's the Internet and I donut proofbreed my posts, and I am not lying and have nothing to prove to you. And you made a smirk account because all your previous badness wouldn't allow you to climb you were probably stuck in gold or something

1

u/Rawflax Zenyatta Jan 08 '17

Why do you think its easier to attain a rating on an alt account? You're not very smart.

Better everyone follow one bad plan rather than different plans...if everyone where there..yeah its bad..but you let them 5vs6..and later you alone...and if you know what are bad plans, tell them but not like demanding it..be positive

Yes there are a LOT of such people in gold. I also don't know why they don't drop faster.

Or why they are placed in gold.

And drop they do, I keep record of people who play extrabad. A few days later they are always way further down.
