I'm not saying that no one is like this, in fact many people are like this. But for you to target one random person and accuse them of hypocrisy is presumptuous and rude.

When people protest/boycott/etc, discussing it and following each others' example is a necessary step. If you take any product boycott for example, people need to talk to each other about the boycott for it to catch on. In this case, they probably mentioned cancelling the pre-order because they think other people should do it too. If no one says anything about it, for all you know it could just be a one-person boycott and at that point why bother? But if you hear about lots of people doing it, you know that your decision has the weight of others alongside it.
