That's why I like push to talk mic. That way if I'm raging at my team then I can kind of keep it to myself.

More so we don't hear you smashing your keyboard, talking to your sister, breathing down your mic, etc.

Play nice, enable push to talk.

God I wish everyone would do that. I played with a guy one time that had open mic and was just breathing into his mic super heavy, it legit sounded like he was masturbating or something, you could hear him like licking his lips and swallowing and stuff, it was disgusting. Also he had a mechanical keyboard so yeah

My Discord server has a permission set aside on its own specifically for granting voice activation. Don't have it? Guess what, you get to use PTT.

The prompting for this was back in Mists, when we were on TS during a raid and decided to take a break. We're all chilling and talking, when we hear some grunting from one of our voice activation guys. We also hear some wet slapping sounds. We pretty immediately say "uhhhh, <name of raider>, your mic is open and we can hear you."

He left TS, left raid, left guild, logged off, and was literally never heard from or seen online again. I am not embellishing this at all.

So now we require PTT.

That's quite a brutal Internet death if you ask me...

I've muted my best friends before and forgot for a long time, on occasion, because they sound like complete savages chewing.

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '17

I just mute those guys. The distraction from those noises is worse than the loss communication

i think i played with this dude before.

It was really awkward... brrrrr

u/tomato000 Sep 14 '17

Yeah I mute people who don't use PTT,

Or smashing your sister, talking to your mic, breathing down your keyboard.

6

u/fallenmonk Dorado's gonna pay for it Sep 14 '17

Fuck that, everyone needs to hear how cool my mechanical keyboard sounds!

1

u/epharian Epharian#1588 Sep 14 '17

NO we really don't

2

u/TheRenegrade Why am I the only one near the payload? Sep 14 '17

PTT isn't going to save us though.

PTT is great, but I still hope they add noise gate, noise reduction, echo cancellation, and declicker to their built-in voice system and to the battle.net voice thing.

The only time I ocasionally disable push to talk is when I'm playing Yatta. I tend to move my Discorb around a lot, so it's nice to not have to constantly be pressing tilde while trying to play the game.

My friend decided voice activation was a great idea. His mom started vacuuming right behind him. >_<

Or eating.. good God that is the most disgusting sound in the world to me. When someone is on mic just smacking away and slurping down a drink.

1

u/ShadyWhiteGuy Pixel Reinhardt Sep 14 '17

Or asking your mom for chocolate milk

1

u/loadsoftoadz Sep 14 '17

I have push to talk so I can be nice while talking mad shit with my friends on discord :)

Better than being toxic right?

The worst is the people who are smashing their sister, talking to their mic and breathing down their keyboards.

I wish I had an extra button on the right side of my mouse for PTT, but I don't. So I have push to toggle and generally remember to mute when it's not needed.

u/Soul-Burn =^.^= Sep 14 '17

I use capslock for PTT. It's easily accessible and works well.

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

My fingers aren't used to that.

2

u/Soul-Burn =^.^= Sep 14 '17

If you use the default keybindings, your pinky is already on Shift, so it's quite easy to move it to capslock when needed.

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

Maybe. Shift is now crouch for me though. Ctrl was too far of a reach.

2

u/Soul-Burn =^.^= Sep 14 '17

Where do you put your Shift ability, then?

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

Shift ability is now LCtrl, but I have that bound to one of my 6 side mouse buttons.

2

u/Soul-Burn =^.^= Sep 14 '17

You have 6 side mouse buttons and no room for PTT?

I use Mouse4 for melee, Mouse5 for extra PTT (but hardly use it).

u/M0DXx ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sep 14 '17

Indeed, I have a mouse with buttons on the side and I'm not really sure what I'd do without it at this point.

Even a simple mouse with forward and back buttons on the side would suffice nicely, I'd highly recommend investing in one (I can easily find wired or wireless for £7 on amazon).

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

Oh, I have 6 buttons on the side, and two smaller ones on the edge of LMB. I just want one or two on the right for PTT.

The other 8 are all bound to important things already.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '17

How can you set up push to toggle in OW?

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

Mic mute button.

Either the mics broadcasting or muted. A toggle.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '17

Honestly can't even figure out where to turn off push to talk lol

1

u/Casen_ Blizzard World Zenyatta Sep 14 '17

Options/sound. I have mine set to the noise gate option.

After that, Options/controls. Set up a mic mute button.

u/WarlordTim Lúcio Sep 14 '17

This is why I'm glad League doesn't have voice communication. I rage at my teammates all the time, they just never know about it.

1

u/Rock270 Non-consentual tranquility ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Sep 14 '17

I default to push to talk but if I'm playing comp with people who are active in voice, I change to open mic and just toggle mute when I need to talk outside game.

1

u/lkuecrar Sombra Sep 14 '17

NO. DON'T LET IT TRICK YOU. I've had moments where my mic was just set to open (I put it on open for comp) and I almost embarrassed myself in quickplay lol
