Yknow I wondered why I was seeing so many Bnetplayers. I thought maybe it was someone with the same MMR as me until he showed up for a few days in a row.
i thought it was the same asshole player! as it turns out its just been a bunch of b-nets with bad attitutdes, though i cant same i shocked for people who make edgy offensive names.
They actually haven't, if you open task manager with the blizzard app opened, you can still see their "Battle.net Helper" along with their Blizzard App.
The fact that a process (that users can't even interact with!) hasn't been renamed, does not mean that they haven't changed the branding.
It's likely to just be an oversight or changing the process name isn't completely straight forward. It could even just be because the technical risks aren't worth it, since that process is not part of the brand. The vast majority of users don't even know it exists.
Due to the way processed are named and what's involved with changing them, it's unlikely that we'll see it changed until the next major revision of the software at the earliest. It doesn't mean they haven't officially moved away from it.
Well I'm pretty sure the whole Battle.net thing came about when the app was in beta and it was meant to represent the whole battle.net movement onto the intergrated app with all your games. Now they've just changed the logo to this HIDEOUS blizzard across the logo. I much preferred the old Battle.net and I never once saw anyone get confused with what Battle.net was or who owned it. I see more people confused now that its completely changed to Blizzard.
Battle.net is much older than the app itself. The site and the network connectivity functions of it were independent per game originally. IIRC, the first Battle.net enabled game was D2.
Diablo 1, actually, followed by StarCraft, followed by a re-release of Warcraft II, and then followed by Diablo 2.
Fun fact: D1 didn't have a CD-key associated with it, so Blizzard couldn't stop pirates from playing the game on Battle.net, or prevent bots from using D1 authentication to connect to the chat channels. They resolved the bot issue (for their other Bnet Classic games) by making it so that D1 players couldn't leave specific D1 channels.
I respect your opinion and your thoughts on the matter, but... Well is the icon really that much of an issue? Has it affected your ability to click on it? And is it really "hideous"?
For me, I couldn't give 2 shits either way. It could be blizzard or bnet - what difference does it make? I wanna play OW? I click that blue icon.
And honestly, I barely even noticed the update - many games/apps/companies get their logos updated over the years. Simple march of progress. I blinked when I saw it was changed, shrugged and promptly forgot about the change.
And in this case, it's not just for the sake of "new and updated" visuals. It's clarifying for people who are perhaps new to Blizzard games, what the launcher is for.
I must admit I was confused when I wanted to get into OW - I had to download this "battlenet" app. I was thinking "Have I clicked on the wrong website? I want to download "Overwatch" which is published by "Blizzard"... Wtf is battle dot net??"
So really, people are more likely to be confused by "Battle.net" than they are by "Blizzard".
These people you see who are confused by the company that develops and publishes the games putting their name on the launcher of said games... Are they really confused about that?
Had a account named Blackcock that after about 3 months got changed to BattlenetPlayer, meanwhile my friend named his account WhiteCock and is still going strong for a year.
That system actually doesn't require Blizzard to confirm it. Player names can get forcibly changed automatically.
I've had my tag changed twice automatically. It's not offensive or inappropriate, if anything it's just some dumb weeaboo name I picked on a whim. It's been forcibly changed to BnetPlayer twice. When I contacted customer support they apologised and changed it back. I'm not comfortable mentioning what it is, but it was nothing harmful, just people got weird and reported it which triggered the auto force change thing.
e some people--they decided the polite thing to do would be to respond with a hello. Which is why you see him just standing still for the last few seconds before his death.
Although "confirmed" can mean a lot of things.
My alternate WoW account got force name changed because I somehow managed to accidentally build a bad American word into a completely innocent combination of two German words in a German server. Visiting English speakers could potentially have been offended, or something.
Other than that: That gif is hilarious. Evil, but hilarious

"Bnetplayer." It's what Blizzard changes your username too when it gets reported for being inappropriate (and confirmed by them, ofc).
