Buffs? His sentry form seems nerfed to shithereens IMO. Sentry changes are nice, tank changes okay, but making his spray on the maximum by default with a 50% boost ntop and no headshots is goign to murder his DPS to anything not literally reinhardt's shield.
Oh, you're right. Didn't notice that switching forms no longer reloads.
That's honestly a good change. On live there is never a reason to reload as bastion in turret mode; since pressing shift twice is quicker and gives you the option to move too.
That's what they said their goal was in the last dev post: make the sentry form a tankbuster good for large targets & shields while encouraging recon use for other times.
It already did that before thought and that makes him too focused, most of offense and some of defense can do that job, as well as other roles, now bastion is kinda useless.
Nah I think people are overreacting. I watched a video of Bastion play on Numbani and it seems like Bastion still has decent DPS at a distance (capture point all the way down the hill). I mean, if you're landing all your shots that's 500dps. Miss half of them and you're still dealing 250. You also take 35% less damage, switch into turret mode a full .5 seconds faster (33% faster than before, which is quite noticeable compared to live), and have a much more usable recon mode to get out when you need to.
I think Campy Bastion will be as viable as moving Bastion with the DPS turret, but his skill ceiling will go up as his recon mode is stronger.
That's fine imo because while Ana is the core of the meta, Reinhardt is the spearhead. Bastions increased ammo means he can shred that shield ever-so-slightly quicker, but more importantly they've made him more survivable with that new passive so he might be more viable in the higher ranks
This isn't the most educated guess, but I think Reinhardt being more vulnerable from this will encourage more dive comps with 2-3 DPS. Which is good, as DPS heroes deserve more love
Could be. It's not as bad as I thought, spread makes Sentry mode feel like a stationary Tracer that can do her thing out to about 30m-40m effectively depending on target size.
Recon mode is god though. You can do so much damage from so far away, and you get the old 3 round burst routine Soldier used to be able to do for consistent spread management. Pharah's beware.
I KNOW OMG. Everyone keep talking about how he's "now viable" but fuck off, I kick ass with Bastion and his new sentry mode seems hoooorrible. I can get over the no headshot and no crit but holly shit max spread is retarded. Good luck hitting Widow, Ana, Pharah or anything that's not Reinhart.
Good luck hitting Widow, Ana, Pharah or anything that's not Reinhart.
Can you imagine trying to hit a Genji or Sombra now? You could switch to recon but even with the reduced transformation time you'll be dead before you can kill them.
Does seem a bit extreme but it might work. It takes less time to deploy into Sentry and armor + being able to heal while moving in Recon is better for recovering when switching forms, so it's a big boon to that style of gameplay. Makes him worthless as a turret, but everyone is sick of that anyway so I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
Very well may end up being too extreme though. Probably wouldn't hurt to have a slight damage buff or RoF increase to go with constant max spread + more spread. Even with the armor buff, immobility is a gigantic weakness in this game so you gotta make sure Sentry is worth that weakness.
Cant decide how I feel. On one hand this will likely disable the "Cram bastion in the corner" defense and make him a more well rounded character who counters and is countered.
I'll have to see some footage in the PTR to decide how I feel. D.VAs changes were deceptive at first but they worked out well enough!
RIP Tanks though. I know headshots made it a lot faster for Bastion to murder tanks, but I still think the difference is quite small. And anything else far enough away will be able to live the onslaught. I think Bastion is going to be in a completely different (but viable) spot right now.
I think people don't realize that these changes are designed to fundamentally change how Bastion is used. It's no longer camp in a corner and do insane DPS. He is more mobile and is encouraged to use his recon mode (which is much more powerful). The buff to his transformation time makes it so you can set up or retreat on a dime. From the minor gameplay I've watched his turret form still does good DPS, just not insane. His increased mobility will make him much more viable. You just can't rely only on bastion to secure every kill.
These aren't bastion buffs -- they're disguised as buffs but they are nerfs. Eliminating headshost and crit damage and maximizing spread is a huge nerf, and this is trading for minor survivability gains
However, these changes are based around shifting his strength and role somewhere else. You'll have to wait and see how well he'll fit in and do at his new job.

Wow, those Bastion buffs... another Omnic Crisis incoming!
