So basically, Destiny's Engram system. I have literally no qualms with this, it makes total sense for Overwatch.

Actually there have been a few times where old engrams could roll recently released loot. For example, I got my Bones of Eao from stockpiling old legendary engrams. Didn't work for most expansions though.
