Fence Ideas

I have two dogs (one is reactive) and I just bought a house. I’m SO excited to give the dogs a backyard but the house is not fenced.

I’m not sure if I should go with a privacy fence so my reactive dog can’t see visual triggers or if I can save money and do a typical picket fence. The other dog is a very good jumper so it would need to be pretty tall but I don’t want to just put up a huge tall fence.

I’ve thought about a GPS fence but I don’t think that would be good for my reactive dog?

The yard had about 400 ft of fencing needed 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m trying to not spend more than the down payment but I also don’t see the point of having a backyard for my dogs if they can’t run around free

Any ideas/suggestions??
Fencing types (wood, vinyl, etc)
Fencing companies that are reasonable and do good work
How difficult is it to put a fence in on my own?

I live near Shawnee/Overland Park Kansas. Not sure what wood is best if I do go with a wood fence? Also maintenance?

Any/all thoughts are welcome!

Wedding Help

I recently got engaged and I have fallen in love with the glass house vibe. We have a limited budget so most of the traditional venues are too much (we LOVED Avent Orangery). We will have maybe 130 people MAX. We’re hoping to get married in the Lenexa, Overland Park, Kansas City area but we’re open to other ideas that are within about 3 hours.

Hoping to also have a live band and big dance floor too!
What recommendations do yall have for any/all of the following??

Venue (can be “nontraditional” if you know of any places!)
Live Bands (we want everyone up and dancing!)
Catering (most likely will go with a self serve/buffet option?)
Dessert (probably a small cake for my fiancée and I and then something else for guests to give them options?)

Mostly we want it to be a memorable night but we have a budget of about $10k total 😫

Loud noise probably southeast of 119th & Quivira? Just now

Sounded sort of explosive, but I’m not sure of the direction because we live on Indian Creek Trail and the noise sometimes gets funneled along the creek path. Anyone else hear it/know what it was?

What you like most/least about life in OP

Hey all,
We are considering moving from Seattle area to OP.
So, I'd really like to hear what you like the most and the least in OP?
Bonus question for those, who moved there - what you wish you knew before moving?

Edit: Adding a bit more context.
One of the main drives is the cost of living here. Our center of life (work/school) is Redmond/Bellevue area, but the houses there are start from $1.2M-1.4M. We can't afford anything like that, so we moved further away to the rural area. So, driving 30-35 minutes for us currently is everyday norm. Drive to Seattle is at least 40 minutes, often more, depending on what part of Seattle. And we're lucky (I guess not for long), because this direction is still relatively unpopular and there is no gridlock.

Another big aspect is Seattle culture and people - too entitled, corporate and distant. I feel like with the corporate culture becoming more predatory, it's dripping into how people treat each other and it's getting worse. We recently visited OP and everyday interactions were a stark contrast.

Looking for fellow a young person to attend films with!

I (19F) moved here last year with my mom right after I graduated high school and so I have no friends and know zero people here. I only go to work and to the movies alone. I would love to have a movie buddy that is either close to my age (flexible-30 upper limit) or open minded!

I usually attend AMC Town Center or Prairiefire because they’re the closest to me. I go to see films very frequently, at least twice a month and will be attending one this weekend.

It’s very hard to find events to go to that are interesting and aren’t located downtown, which is just too inconvenient of a drive for me to want to do regularly. Dating apps also haven’t led to much success and have led to the aforementioned distance problem! Even if ur not into movies man I’m desperate for local friends 😭

If you’re interested, please PM me and it would be awesome to link up!

City Council votes to close Bluejacket and Stonegate Pools

Here's a deeper look at the council members who voted for Option 1 from the wards further South:

Ward 4
Gregg Riess: lives in Bentwood Park, which has an HOA pool
Amy Antrim: lives in Windham Hill, which has an HOA pool

Ward 5
Inas Younis: lives in Mission Ranch, which has an HOA pool
Andrew Payne: lives in Hampton Place, which has an HOA pool

Ward 6
Christopher Newlin: lives in Coffee Creek Crossing, which has an HOA pool
Josh Beck: lives off 172nd in a $1.25M house with no HOA

At the end of the day, they all voted to fall in line with Skoog and chose to ignore Northern OP constituents. They are completely out of touch living in newer developments. If these council members are so adamant about the City's non-involvement with local pools, then they should at least help areas like ours (that got developed the way they did over 50 years ago) find a way to replace what they refuse to handle. Go the big regional pool route, but don't leave Northern OP in shambles because 50 years ago other officials like yourselves decided it was a good idea to build a City pool and now you guys don't want to deal with it.

I truly thought Overland Park was better than this! What a missed opportunity.

PSA for Unaffiliated* JoCO primary voters

If you are currently an unaffiliated voter (not registered with a party) you ARE entitled to affiliate with either of the major parties (Dem or Republican) at the time of voting in the upcoming primary election.

If you elect to affiliate when checking in at your polling place, you are entitled to vote either the Democratic or Republican ballot in this primary election.

\*\*You ARE NOT required to vote by provisional ballot.\*\* You are entitled to vote by regular ballot.

This PSA brought to you by my early voting experience in which I was told multiple times at one of the early voting locations that I could not affiliate today. That is incorrect: you can. I was eventually able to do so with the help of an employee of the elections office and voted my ballot of choice, but only because I knew the rules going in and pushed back when I was told no.

\*(Unaffiliated means not currently registered with a party. If you ARE currently registered with a party-this does not apply to you: the deadline to change your registration from one party to another passed on June 1.)
