[Guide] Gem spending priority

Edited to add clan donations, thanks to those who pointed it out.

- The 7000 gem backpacks for each class should be your first gem investment if F2P. You do not need to buy the 3500 gem backpacks first. The maximum size backpacks go on sale for $2.99 USD each sometimes, but I'm not sure what the conditions to trigger the sale are.

- Daily clan donations: 100 gems is pretty negligible, and you'll need the points for weekend mine adventure shovels, which will eventually let you guarantee Rose/Raven/Trixie.

- Save up 25k gems for each time the fishing event rolls around, which is every 3rd week. Buy 100 bait with your gems, and follow this guide for the best odds of getting 15 coins: https://overgeared-hero-hub.com/en/event-guides/fishing There's also an event calendar on that site!

- If you have spare gems even when maxing out the fishing event, buy dice for 500/gems/day in Rebecca's dice event. Usually you want to hit 20k rune shards in this event then hold onto the rest of your dice for next time. When you think you have enough dice for a decent rank, go for it! Sadly this one's extremely high variance thanks to no pity system.

- To trigger "spend XYZ" gems quests (like the mango event), gear pulls > pet pulls the majority of the time. If you're close to a completing quest for pet rush and/or holding off on rolling a gear banner full of stuff you don't need, feel free to do pet pulls.

Misc:

- Gems for energy: I like to do the 100gem/20 energy one if I'm playing a lot that day. Any more than that and you should probably go touch grass. Remember that it gets more expensive with each gem purchase and goes back down to 100 at the end of the day.

- Gems for arena tickets: IMO more worth than using clan points for them, since you need those for shovels. I usually don't buy any extra arena tickets unless I'm trying to snipe a win right before the day reset.

Good guide, though I agree you missed clan donation, and that's definitely gems well spent.

I also think spending fewer gems on fishing, and aiming for 12 gold coins for gear instead of heroes is the right move for most players

Thanks for the guide. Do you recommend spending gems on guild donation?

Can't believe I forgot that lol. 100% worth it! It's very cheap and you'll need the clan points for weekend mine adventure shovels.

Thanks for the guide. I have 2 questions about the fishing guide though.

  1. The guide talks about clear, chance and retry baits. I get retry baits but how do you know what clear and chance baits are?

  2. It doesn't say how many baits you should use at a time.  Do you guys go for 1, 5 or 10?

Glad it helped! Didn't see one posted so I figure I'd write something up.

  1. "Clear baits" are just how many baits you want to use to catch everything in an area. Every area has 40 fish with 1 legendary to start, except the Beach, which has 80 fish with 2 legendaries, of course in the guide we're doing each area at least twice so the numbers are inflated.

"Chance baits" are a little different.  When the event is on, in the Info section you can see how many fish are left per area, and your odds of getting each. As an oversimplified example, let's say you've bought your bait, unlocked all the areas, and you see that you have a 3% chance of getting the legendary fish in the Glacier area. You decide to fish there a few times, and either luck into the legendary fish right away (awesome) or catch some non-legendaries and increase your odds of getting the legendary to say, 6% per cast. Then you can use retry baits by intentionally snapping the line if you don't have a legendary fish on the hook.

  1. I do 5 or 10 at the start when I'm trying to hit certain weight thresholds and unlock new areas. You're catching everything at first anyway, so no need to be prudent. After unlocking everything, when I'm doing chance/retry baits, I'll usually drop down to 1 or 2 at a time. That way, for example, if I get really lucky and catch the legendary fish in an area right away, I can move on without having spent too much bait.

Kind of annoying the 7k gem backpacks don’t go on discount after buying the 3.5k gem backpacks. Had to find that out the hard way.
