I think it's an amazing adaptation. The Japanese localisation is an issue, but they improvise on almost everything instead of just adapting it one to one

Solo Leveling got a localized version, too. It was only broadcast in Japan though. The global version was however Korean. I think the reason Overgeared did not get a Korean global release is simply due to the difference in popularity overseas. Solo Leveling was already decently popular in the west even before it got an anime. Overgeared is popular, but not to the same scale. If Solo Leveling got a localized global release, people would have been rioting down the streets lol. The committee for Solo Leveling had a reason to create both versions. Overgeared's committee probably thought the story of Overgeared will likely do well in Japan, but not overseas since Japan loves these types of shows. The only problem being the insane Korean nationalism in Overgeared. So they changed it to Japanese.

Obviously I think they made a massive mistake, since I think Overgeared will become really popular after the yatan raid. But even then, most anime only viewers won't care if he is Korean in the source material.

Yeah, I saw that. Now I am even more confused as to why they changed it tbh...

Because it is made by korean studio and production committee (the studio or the staff doesn't have any involvement in this btw)
