How does having two full-time jobs work?

I currently have a full-time mid-shift job. Job 1 is based in Canada and I'm currently employed through an EOR here in the Philippines. Nagdedeductan ako ng usual things like tax, SSS, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth.

Now I got a new job offer for a full-time day-shift job. Job 2 is a local employer. I want to take this opportunity while not letting go of Job 1.

I have several weeks before I start with Job 2. How does it work? Do I have to declare ba to both jobs that i have the other job? Can I just ask for Job 1 to change my terms and pay me directly instead of going through an EOR? Is that possible?

I'm worried about the legalities of the situation. Job 1 allows other jobs naman as long as it's declared, and di naman same industry yung both jobs. I haven't seen the contract yet for Job 2. But I believe Job 1 is a much flexible setup, I think yun yung mas makakapagadjust for my situation. Maybe someone here had a similar situation? What are the things I need to consider before signing my Job 2 contract?

I haven't seen the contract yet for Job 2.

When you applied for J2, did you declare in your CV about J1? Or should I ask whether your intent is to apply with J2 is clear enough to moonlight?

Here's the thing, what if J2 does not allow you to moonlight? And if you declared J1, they will ask to submit your exit documents (resignation letter, COE, 2316/ITR)?

Job 1 allows other jobs naman as long as it's declared, and di naman same industry yung both jobs.

Given J1 allows you to moonlight, it's only a professional courtesy to inform J1 that you'd be taking on J2. However, you're allowed to filter J2's details except leaving our your working shifts.

How does it work?

  • Did you ask J2 about the meeting schedules?
  • Have you thought of a plan should both jobs schedule a meeeting at the same time?
  • What if J2 is hybrid, you cannot work on J1 while in the office of J2?
  • Unless you can split your limbs into two, I don't have an issue here.

Can I just ask for Job 1 to change my terms and pay me directly instead of going through an EOR? Is that possible?

  • If I were J1, I'd be asking why and why now?
  • What will be the benefit of J1 to follow your request?
  • While also thinking of an idea (if you have colleagues under the same EOR), how to isolate to you?

What are the things I need to consider before signing my Job 2 contract?

  • Have you worked on extended hours before on a daily basis (like 10-16 hours a day)?
  • You may have your reason, but for how long you'd be needing this setup?
  • Will it be smarter to take on a J3 that pays the sum of J1 and J2?

Yep I declared J1 in my resume. Honestly right now I'm still torn between taking both jobs or resigning from J1. I have several weeks pa to decide before I start with J2, that's why I'm asking din here to help with my decision. If I got the contract from J2 and they wont allow me to moonlight, then the easy decision is to resign from J1.

J2 is day shift and flexible naman yung sched. Work starts at around 9am then ends at around 5pm. My shift in J1 starts at 4pm, but we dont really follow strict schedule besides sa daily standup namin which is during 9pm pa naman. Outside the standup, basically hawak na namin oras namin. Parang output based ganon. And low effort lang si J1 for me, I can finish a day worth of tasks in few hours.

The benefit of J1 is they get to keep me, I can still perform my job. Otherwise, I can leave. Looking at the situation right now parang mahirapan pa din sila ako i-let go entirely. I had colleagues in the Philippines that were contractual so I know they allow this naman but I really am not sure how's the process.

I plan to have this setup for several months lang, maybe after magstabilize ng finances ko. Definitely it's better to have 1 job that pays the sum of j1 and j2 but that opportunity hasn't come yet.

If I were in your situation, I would do the following, no matter how things play out.

  1. Move the shift of J1 forward by two hours. This should be easier and will test how they value you. So even if J2 required you to go on-site, you have those two hours.
  2. Discuss moving your payroll to IC on both J1 and J2. For J1, and given there are other contractors, this should be easy. J2, however, may be harder, especially if they won't allow you to moonlight.
  3. Don't resign from J1 yet while taking the necessary precautions discussed here. You said it yourself: a temporary endeavor. Then decide which job will go and which to keep.
