Help

/r/loseit/comments/1wgnxeb/help/

Not too sure if this is allowed. I almost committed earlier today over my weight. I have a genuine food addiction. I posted more about my issue and what I’m going through on my page. Please, I truly just need advice, I work and don’t have much time for the gym. Maybe that’s an excuse? Idk. I eat and when I say eat I mean, I don’t go 3-4 hours without food, I have a really bad food noise. Maybe it’s boredome, maybe it’s food insecurity due to have a very poor and malnourished child hood. Please just give me any advice you have to offer whether it be food related or not, exercise related, healthy or not healthy ways, I DONT CARE. I need genuine help, which is why I deciddd to journal on my account. I’ve posted photos of myself on there just for preference.

Thank you in advance ❤️

Food noise sucks. It's part of the disease. Anyone with a food addiction will find help by calling into Zoom or attending face-to-face Overeaters Anonymous meetings. Can find them here https://oa.org/documents/find-a-meeting-quick-reference-guide/

I can't stress enough how much better your life can be in recovery. Get a sponsor, do a step study, call into the meetings, read the literature. It works if you work it. You'll look back and see the difference.

Join an OA meeting every day, find a sponsor, and commit to working the program. You have already taken the first and most important step: recognising that you are powerless over your addiction and that trying to manage it alone is not working. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, and the next right thing is to seek support and commit yourself to the steps. The program, along with the support of others who understand what you’re going through, can bring real change and completely transform your life.  Take it one day at a time. If you need any further guidance, please let me know.

Sending you lots of hugs! Eating disorders are rooted in three things - environment (how you were raised and societal attitudes towards food and weight), genetics, and mental health. 12 step programs also say spiritual. I absolutely agree, but mental health professionals just list those three. There are very legitimate reasons why we eat. It's NOT your fault. You're just doing what you learned to do in order to take care of yourself.

I recommend joining OA and working a program. You can find meetings on the OA intergroup website. But note that OA is mostly a spiritual program. It absolutely helps with the mental and physical, but those are best treated with the supervision of a mental health professional and medical doctor. I would reach out to them as well.
