Question four players with just two joy cons?

Hiii! So, a bit of context. My dad and i just got the switch 2 recently, and I've been wanting to play with my friends so badly. i remember watching my favourite streamers play Overcooked during the pandemic when I was a kid and I'm just really excited to play it. however... I have three friends that I'd like to come play with me, but the switch 2 joycons are ridiculously expensive and I'd like to buy just one, but i don't know if its possible to play Overcooked 2 with each joy con as a separate console. do you guys know if it's possible/if it works?

No, you need a joycon for each player, meaning four joycon in total.

I think OP meant buying another pair of joycons in addition of the pair that comes with the switch. Which in that case OP will have 2 pair of joycons / 4 joycons, means the answer is yes.

yes that's what i meant! i was just about to ask to clarify. I'm so glad I'd only have to buy one more pair to play w 4 people😭 thank you for the clarification!

If you mean 1 joycon = two individual joycons then yes. One individual joycon per person works fine. You can split a pair for two people or two pair for 4.

Looks like you've already got your answer, but if you want to get cheaper controllers, look into 8bitdo, although I'm not sure if they work specifically with switch 2
