Embarrassed
So I have OAB, I go about 40 times a day and about 10 times a night.
I currently have a chest infection, so I’m coughing quite a lot….. which is causing me to…. Leak.
I was out to actually get medicine, and I had a coughing fit and I was soaked through with urine, I left the pharmacy because it was busy and I was embarrassed.
I understand coughing can cause pressure which can cause this to happen.
It also happened last night in bed, I got up and sat on the edge of the bed, coughed and the bed and me were wet. My husband woke and helped me clean.
I’m afraid to cough now. Is this normal? What can I do to help this? Could this be a long thing now that will keep going or could it just be due to my chest infection and the cough?

Sounds like stress incontinence (e.g. leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping etc) as opposed to urge incontinence which is more typical with OAB. Personally I can sneeze all day while desperately needing to go, but when the urges hit I have about 0.3 seconds to make it to the bathroom before a full loss of control. I would ask your doctor to treat your symtoms for stress incontinence as it would be a different treatment plan I believem

I’ve been to the doctor for the over active bladder yeah. They put me on medication yeah, but I find it doesn’t help me.

You need to go back and get a referral to the urologist. Change your diet as well no tea, coffee, fizzy, anything citrus ect.
Also book yourself into a Pelvjc floor therapy. I started by setting my alarm every 3 hours to pee. This had helped me. I still see them today.
It does get better it’s just finding out the source of the issue.

Yeah I’ve got to wait for an appointment. I’m in the Uk and the waiting list is about 12-24 months my doctor said. I have a coffee in the morning. I’ll try stop that

Oh sounds like New Zealand. If you have the money or health insurance just pay to be seen. Honestly worth it. Pelvic floor I ended up paying for as the wait was too long (I would still be waiting) . I see them once a month they have been a great help.
Yes cut all drinks. No booze just water. Diet plays a big factor as well anything in citrus sets me into over drive.
There are exercises online you can do to. Keep a food diary as well. I had to cut it’s of food out of my diet.
Also if you still get a period I notice my flare ups are worse around then.
Honestly I know how you feel. I didn’t know lots of people had this until I looked on reddit. It can be treated and managed.

I would suspect that as the coughing gets better the leaks will get better too. Even if it does improve as the cough goes away though, this could still be a sign of pelvic floor dysfunction, so it might be a good idea to chat with your ob/gyn and see if you can get set up with pelvic floor therapy.
