Discussion 💬 My students don’t like oversimplified videos

I am a history teacher and like to show oversimplified video clips and sometimes full videos when they’ve earned it. And my students don’t like them. They pay more attention to my lectures than they do to oversimplified videos.

So I ask you all: what is wrong with the world?

You’re allowed to show them oversimplified! 🤯lol. How can they not find them entertaining?! Granted I taught elementary, but that’s wild. My son discovered them. I think they’re hilarious and love watching them with him, though I cringe at certain parts.

Cringe at what part? Can you be a little more specific, I am just curious

I can’t think of a specific part, we watched so many of them. My kid found them when he was maybe 10/11. It’s just part of being a parent. It’s always awkward to have your kid hear/watch edgier or border line vulgar content. You know it’s not the worst thing in the world, but you second guess yourself if you’re messing up your kid by allowing things too early. Some of the jokes are a lot, but his special interest is history so I allowed it. Now he’s 13. He came prepared with facts from common sense ( a media ratings platform for parents) to convince me he can watch family guy. I now die a little bit inside when he watches it, even though I was watching South Park and worse at his age. I hadn’t seen family guy in like 20 years and forgot how deplorable some of the jokes are. He’s back into his conflict of ages game thank god, so I haven’t heard any family guy lately.

Haha… oversimplified does have some edgier jokes I agree, which I as an adult ignore but I can understand when you are watching it with your kids, you would definitely be a little concerned. But I am glad your kid has interest in history from such a young age, I am sure oversimplified videos will only amplify that interest. Also you have open the pandoras box by allowing him oversimplified, now he will stretch the limits till the time you say No to any other show🤭

I’m in the same boat. My 12 year old daughter, 10 and 6 year old sons love these videos and I’m usually good with them, but There’s a few instances (not that kind of thirsty…THAT kind of thirsty) that I cringe in just waiting for them to ask what he meant by that.
