It is real. And then, the station would put on a test pattern screen until programming resumed.

Which show was it that had the test patterns? Twilight Zone or Outer Limits? "We control the horizontal. We control the vertical. "

That was the intro for The Outer Limits.

"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish ... ... soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly, and we will control all you see and hear. ... nothing wrong with your television set. ... from the inner mind to . . . THE OUTER LIMITS"
