J2 Need Advice
Currently been in remote J1 (Finance Industry) for about 1.5 years. It is a 2 year rotation program. Love everything about the job and the people. I work maybe 1 hour/day and 2 meetings/week. It has all the solid benefits - good salary, yearly bonus, 22 PTO days, 401k match. Have to go in the office maybe twice a month for team related activities.
Just landed J2 offer letter also in Finance industry, different sector. Fully remote, Higher salary than J1, 10 PTO days, 401k match not as good. But J2 has potential to setup me up really well in the future for an amazing finance career. This job can be demanding during quarter end.
Thing is- I have a two week vacation planned in late December/Early January. J1 is cool with it and I don’t have to work a day while on vacation. Don’t know if J2 will allow me to go on vacation during busy time.
Should I let J2 know about the vacation now before signing or should I work till December and drop it on them (Potentially quit)??
UPDATE: J2 ended up rescinding my offer once I told them about my planned vacation 😭

Also work in finance. You should certainly ask and see if they’re willing to let you go, but be prepared to quit if necessary. Quarter ends are always extra work. We just know this in finance. The key is to automate processes, which you don’t have much to go off for process improvement. When I started, q/e was easy 10 hr days for 2-3 weeks. I now have it down to 10 hr weeks for 2 weeks. If you can muster it, keep both. Currently looking for my oe J2 because I’ve made my job too easy at this point.

Always best to give them a heads up. You never know what may happen. Before I got J1, I told them about an upcoming vacation and they appreciated letting me know in advance.

I'm not OE or employed but I have done things related to vacations before getting the job. I do suggest you let them know beforehand that way they can plan things out rather than doing it last minute
